I would think there should be the 5 or 6 digit engine code stamped into the front face of the block. Not the VIN, but it would prove if the engine is original if it matches the engine ID...

I would stay with the ball bearing slide models. The cheapo's are sticky when you load them full of tools.

Pretty sure Craftsman are made by Waterloo, as are most of the other brands out there.
