How does one tell if the car is legit other than PHS? Does the 400 have a unique VIN? There is a '68 400 4 speed conv. for sale on canadatrader.com under northern Alberta if anyone wants to check it out. Here's the link.
'67 firebird conv I asked the guy to send me the VIN and any numbers he could find off the engine and heads. He says it's a very solid car, but he doesn't know much about Pontiacs and wasn't much help on the details. I'm going to check it out on the 13th if he still has it. Thanks, Brian

The vin does not have anything to indicate motor or option nor does firewall plate. '67 motors did not have vin# on block. Would have to go by PHS or next option would be match the 2 letter engine code and dates off of block and heads.

The eighth digit in the vin should be a 1 which denotes V8.
There should be a 4F (400 package), perhaps combined with other letters on the lower middle left of the trim tag. John

KY bird,
I would think there should be the 5 or 6 digit engine code stamped into the front face of the block. Not the VIN, but it would prove if the engine is original if it matches the engine ID number on the PHS docs or the Protect-O-Plate. At least my '67 GTO had this number....I'll check the link. Thanks, Brian

Also, it' hard to tell, but it looks like the grill has the 400 trim strip. The guy said there is no arrowhead emblem on the bumper however. Bumper could have been changed though.
