Did you reboot the PC at all? Even when changing HDMI cables, you should reboot. HDMI can be finicky and just lose signal like you are describing for no good reason and a reboot and turning off TV...

Don't be in a major hurry. This is typical of PTFB. Dave has never ripped anyone off so no worries there but being told one thing and then actually waiting for months for parts to arrive is common.
