I thought this would be fun to replace my old dirtbike (Suzuki PE250) and be able to ride on the street too.

Default My recent project

I have had this one for a few years now. It was restored cosmetically by P/O, and came with the engine and trans in boxes. Click image for larger version

Definately. I just recently discovered the DR350SE after I came to the realization that my knees aren’t going to allow me to continue with kick start bikes. Ended up with 2 DRs and a 1968 Honda CL350 which is also elect start. The DR350 went electric start in 1994. My other requirement was 1996 or older so I could put them on my Hagerty insurance.

This isn't really a classic motorcycle but thought you might find it interesting all the same. I came across this one almost by mistake. I was restoring my 68 Charger and this rust bucket was dealing me all kinds of grief. My loving wife said I should try something different to get away from the Charger. There was a motorcycle listed at an on ling auction is Sturgis. The pictures didn't really show much and it was listed as a roller. I bid and bought it and several boxes of parts. I paid 1610.00 for it. I studied the bike and its origin . And after about another 7500.00 I wound up with a widow maker deluxe.

Couple of my favorites from a few years back.

1967 Sears and Roebuck 106. This thing was bullet proof, wife rode it on in a 300 mile rally ride .. literally wide open the entire time. Never missed a beat, no battery, pretty much no electrical system except a magneto for the two lights. It's actually an Italian bike branded by Sears.

And the 67 Honda 160 twin that I rode in the same rally. I built an exhaust system to replace the rusted out original.

And the current street ride .. 2000 Honda RC51 .. which is practically vintage at this point.

My brother bought a 500 triple brand new. It was my first motorcycle as a hand me down. I got my license on it when I turned 16, have been riding for 50 years now. When I tell people that know what they were that it was my first bike they are amazed I made it this far. The 500 was faster than the 750 and 900 at the time because of the difference in weight.

Here I am on another 500, not quite the same speed though!

Had to get out of the motorcycle thing couple of years ago after knee replacement, but have owned several dozen of them over the years. Mostly Honda's and HD's.

The last bike I had was a 2002 HD CVO Road King. 103cid, 103hp/103tq with a Baker 6 speed transmission. It left a couple of years ago as I was only riding in 200-300 miles a year.....

Back in the 1960s I rode a XLCH Harley which was not the long distance cruising bikes like Cliff's above.

I tired of constantly trying to keep the thing clean, (as the farm had a dirt road for several miles before a blacktop road).
No regrets.

I have a friend had to have his right foot/ankle reattached after a Harley accident on a road paralleling the freeway.

One minute he was "whole" and the next he was missing his foot/ankle.

They reattached it and he can walk just fine but no more Bikes for him.

Anyone remember when OMT had his bike crash???

I had a number of bikes when I was younger.

I had an early 1970s CL-125 Honda before I got my driver's license. I lived on a 15 acre tract, so plenty of room to ride.

I moved up to around a 1973 or 1974 Suzuki 380GT 2-stroke triple. I liked the bike a lot, but wanted more power. I sold the GT380 after about six months and moved up to a Suzuki GT550, which was almost the same bike but with more power.

My next bike was a Kawasaki 750H2. My dad had a garage and a dealer's license. A motorcycle shop had a 750H2 that a guy had some extensive modifications performed (exhaust, stubby handlebars, motor rebuild). The shop offered the motorcycle to my dad (he had an automotive dealer's license and sold some motorcycles as well), so I told my dad I wanted it. Luckily still had my GT550.

The 750H2 was a scary bike to ride, a lot more engine than suspension. Both of my Suzuki's had front disc brakes, but the Kawasaki was equipped with drum brakes. I almost let it get away from me, it was scary.

A customer saw the bike in my dad's shop and wanted to buy it. I agreed to the sale, which wasn't tough because I really didn't like the bike.

I came close to buying a Suzuki 750 Water Buffalo (early liquid cooled), but I backed out and decided to save the money for college. I rode the Suzuki GT550 for probably another 4 - 5 years before selling after college.

I raced with them a few times in Mosport, Shannonville and Shubenacadie. Good bunch of folks up there.

The 1969-1971 500 H1's had a drum front brake, but all 750 H2's came with a disk front brake. Maybe the previous owner had swapped it over for some reason (disks were still pretty new to motorcycles then, and there were a few drum brakes that were still considered pretty good.)
