My friend has a chewed up piston and rings and valve epoxied in clear epoxy.
Has a Vette, A new Vette came into his shop with a nice intake on it and it was a total loss. He wanted to switch the intakes. The bolts and intake were black, he lost a bolt, found it after start up. He went for good rods pistons and had port work done after that. .25 cent bolt cost him 10 g in the end!

If someone near the finish line @ Byron finds a 1.25" long piece of oldsmobile connecting rod, lemme know. Its the missing piece to a friend's puzzle.

I see all kinds of people hanging on to these old, beat up slip yokes. I just don't get it.

I see people have shafts made, and then use conversion joints on the rear. WTH?

If you're going to have a driveshaft made, a couple more bucks, do the yokes, it just makes sense. And yes, use 1350s.

I see all these folks wanting to shorten their' original OE driveshafts. They spend all this money on a decent engine and trans, suspension, etc, and want to save a couple hundred bucks. Blows me away.

10 bolts rears. Need I say more?

I love the way muncies shift, there is no substitute. But I would have to freshen them every 10-15k miles or so. Had a pile of parts leftover, a bunch of mainshafts, countershafts, gears, mid plates, cases, you name it. I gave up. The manuals that would survive power are not cheap, and not many make good street driving transmissions.

I see people spending all kinds of money on 6 speed conversions, just to eat up the trans in short order. Kills me. "But they are rated at 700" is what I hear. Yeah, max. You have 650. It's a duty cycle thing.

My 'bird is a factory manual car, technically started life as a 400 4-speed. But I'm going to an auto in, I want to enjoy the car for a while.

Yeah! Even without a turbo stuff takes a serious beating. Most folks aren't making the power they think they are, so stuff for those folks lasts. Those are usually the ones that say 'oh no problem! I run XXX for years and never had issues".

Or the guys that maybe hammer it once or twice a year, maybe drive 1000 miles in a year. Sure, it's going to last for decades that way!

The other one that gets me "there are folks running in the 10s with those xxx". Yeah, for how long though? How often do they freshen it?

There's no free lunch.

Here's one of my many trophies. Unfortunately I didn't take pictures of many of them. There have been a lot of them over the years.

The hole was so big you could put your fist in it. It was too big to sleeve.
