Unfortunately prints like that take considerable time to print, that's why the high cost. I'm sure they price by time and material costs. Those two items combined, even with their machines that I'm sure print faster than mine are probably three hours to print.
Xometry is a pretty good outfit. I'll submit the file and see if there are any options that can be tweaked for a lower price. Update: Yep, looks like that's what it is. They don't offer the less expensive, easier to print materials like PETG. Might be that other places do. The quote I got was for ASA which typically would be printing in a heated enclosure in a manufacturing scenario. Interesting that there is no volume discount ... 1 costs the same per piece as 100.

I did find this place: https://craftcloud3d.com/
Gave me a quote of about $16 for just the complete delete plate in PETG. A lot of the other services seem geared toward industrial customers. I guess for $16 it might be worth a shot in the dark. Keep in mind if they ask you what units are used in the file you would want to pick millimeters.

Does the file for the glue-in insert include the textured surface?

The textured surface is dependent on the surface texture of the build plate, so no. However, textured build surfaces are not uncommon and all have pretty much the same satin finish.
I have one spare glue-in insert here with no one's name on it. I also have one radio bezel insert with a blemish in the top right corner ... this is the one that goes into a radio bezel and has the provision for nuts on the back to hold it in.

Do we even know it fits yet since didn't even wait to compare to original or size before printing and sharing?

Trevor ... yep I jumped the gun a bit ... but I'm fairly confident of the fit, I was comparing the prints to an OEM radio bezel at each step.
Looking forward to Elarnson's report.

haha all good, wasn't sure if you had a radio bezel on hand during the process or if I'd missed the test fit. I just didn't want to see you getting ahead and finding out later a tiny area needs to be redesigned!
And all of these 70-77 owners, have you saved any pics of original delete plates? I've only seen one or two, saved them, but also doesn't matter to me. |

Unfortunately the latest version doesn't fit. The problem is that the sides are straight, whereas the factory edge tapers in sharply.
I took a picture of the first (flat) insert that you sent that fits into the pocket good. You can see that the backside flat face got significantly bigger with the edge ribs added. I also took a picture of the edge of the printed plate compared to the tapered edge of the aftermarket '77-81 plate. Eric

I didn't take that into consideration ... that the back of a whole plate would have to sit down in the dash as deep as the simple flat plate.
Should be an easy change to radius the rear edge to allow it to fit deeper into the dash. I'll get started on a revision tonight. Thanks for being the guinea pig BTW ... I sent you an insert right? So you have one that can be used in a new plate when I send it?

Does this look any better?
Same dimensions in all respects except the back edge is radiused like the OEM part ... guessing it would allow the plate to go in maybe 1/4" farther. I really should have caught this before now ... it's right there on the OEM plate I was sent to examine.

the radius might be too small.

I was massaging the radius to get it as large as I could without altering some other aspects of the model ... but yes I think the OEM radius is a bit larger ... and not a true radius ... meaning a radius between two planes 90 degrees apart. Looks like they use a portion of a larger radius.
This one is already printing out ... I'll know in about four hours how it looks Might be enough to get it to seat into the radio holes though, and can't be seen from the front. You know I even measured the OEM radius and wrote it down, but never applied it to the model. Update: Just checked the model ... radius is at .23" now .. most I can go is .25" without the radius slicing into the front edge ... from a fit standpoint it would only alter the depth the plate inserts by a few hundreds of an inch. I'm hopeful this will work ... but just in case ... ordered a few more priority shipping boxes
