If it's 5800 rpm, slip is 3.0%
If it's 5900 rpm, slip is 4.9% Either way the converter is well coupled at the big end.

As a comparison, my 9.5" Redneck converter slips 5.8% in my race car with 3.90 gears and a 28" tire.

My converter couples well for what it stalls at. The car operates between 5500-6500 rpm and goes across the line at 6600 rpm.

"373's 10 inch Continental 5800/5900 rpm at stripe..factory tach."
I thought that you were back to using the Continental 10" converter. I was using one as well and saw less than 200 rpm slip on the top end of the track using 3.42 gears. You'll have trouble finding something that will lock-up that tight on the top end of the track and still produce those 60' times.......

Andy(Torquewar) still has his Continental in his car and combined with a th 400 and 3.42 gears he has 60 footed a 1.46. We both currently consistantly 60 foot in the sub 1.5 range with full weight street cars. I'm currently holeshotting many bracket cars, slick cars and open header cars. Its pretty cool when the quiet street car leaves on them.

New bests 10.688/127.35 followed up 15 mins later before track closed with a 10.679/127.5. Had to leave relatively soft all day my 60 foots were 1.52 and 1.53 on those runs. Had a late start to the day..and track issues plus blew the tires off first run..didn't look good until I ran a 10.78 leaving easy at 127..I knew there was some et coming.
Great day overall, went over to check out a 71 GTO turns out it was a 290 cfm SD KRE headed 455 with an OF cam and a " Jim Hand" Continental Convertor! Word gets around I guess!

Open exhaust really didn't gain much but it is hard to tell without full traction. The car was making a ton of torque out of the hole. A few random thoughts moving forward: Spending another season with the 373's, I love my convertor more than ever Car guys are great X pipe or open headers with extensions...??? Which gives more power Solid rollers? There is more in this engine than I thought I'm open to testing or trying things next year if someone suggests something I hope there are et Pros's available soon Don't forget my gas cap 40 minutes away at a gas station and waste time trying to buy one locally when I show up late at the track Its amazing how many Pontiac guys are out there Yesterday was first time at the track I only opened the hood to check things I still need to figure out shiftpoints and need a tach that is close to being accurate Have fun and keep tuning

Where do you shift now? If it’s up over 6k solids may help but the hydros seem like they’re working. Are they the Comp “S” lifters with the correct oil band?

In reference to your exhaust. Exhaust is weight. Especially 3” with full x , dumps and full over the axle tail pipes……remove it all after the headers and you will go faster…I don’t mess with it because I’m lazy , but I’ve gone .15 -.2 quicker with no exhaust, mostly due to weight removal. I do go a tad quicker using my dumps with a full 3” X….. I’m not chasing et much anymore as I’m carrying too much weight….no point really. Keep my hood closed these days!

Only at 5800...I'm not sure which 857's that they are..it wouldn't go quicker shifting higher..I'm thinking solids for next year when they are available!

Not as much gain as I thought..sooner be a tenth slower and be more mellow for sound...but see what happens when I start shifting higher..

The old rule of thumb, for your power level for every 100# lost , is worth a tenth. So 64 lbs is roughly 1/2 tenth. When your up in 800 hp range 200 lbs is worth a tenth. 2 point more compression is worth 20 hp, sometimes a little more. Not that you would want to go there. Nice to see that’s your best ET to date. Congrats hard work and $ spent paid off.
