The Hooker Super Comps have always dropped right in for me. I've even experienced this on Chevrolets. |

I've had as good luck with my Hookers as anything. Yes esp #5 bolt is a pain! With my RAIV 400 I needed smaller size 1 3/4 and the Hedman's would not even bolt up. Cut off 2 tubes and redid and easy bolt access!

Getting closer to a road test, fitted, tacked and welded the front exhaust section. Now I just need to tweak my tailpipes.and also clearance for the drivers side header again!

A taller tire will move the car back on the starting line and slow the RT. I tried running 26” front tires and had red light issues with an off idle launch no matter how deep I’d stage. 27” tires and running air pressure down to 25psi to make the tire “act” taller and RT’s are usually .01-.03 off the foot brake.

i have read/heard that a taller tire reduces rolling resistance though, not sure how much that will help et's or 60ft but it makes sense. i think taman meant the taller tire will help get the nose up more. |

Something not mentioned, a taller tire also increases roll out. In other words the car moves forward more before it trips the beam and starts the timer. The car will run a slightly quicker ET with a taller front tire as a result, if you're careful how you stage the car (not too deep)

I finally had the car out for a test drive yesterday. Car feels lighter and more responsive. I notice the higher rpms down the highway, but the engine feels pretty happy at 2700/2800 rpm. The ProSystems carb is now able to quickly go to full throttle and has instant throttle response from a standstill. Thanks to a good local carb guy for advice and of course Tom Vaught as well.
I'm pretty happy with the stance of the car now as it sits almost level.

Have a few miles on them. feels the same. The car sits about one inch lower in the rear(it used to sit about one /one half inch above stock ride height. With the adjustable shocks I have them at 5 out of 9 for firmness. So I could actually soften the ride up if I wanted to.

Last two sets of dougs I had were on the disappointing side, both needed work, and the one a body set the driver collector was cocked to one side. I will probably go back to Hookers.

Looking forward to some 1/4 mile passes, to see, "What's up".
It seems crazy that it's almost July. June 20 was the summer solstice day, most daylight of the year. Now we are going the other way. It will be a while before the difference is noticeable...

I'm really itching to get out and test..I should have had the carb figured out last year but ran out of time last year. I believe last year if I had the carb issues figured out..it would have ran at least half a tenth quicker then its best et..maybe a tenth quicker...the mph was higher even with the carb issues.. So that will have to be taken into consideration this year if I knock a few tenths off the best et. I will have to run the carbs back to back one day this year. I know Andy and I have talked about running his big carb as well on my engine on a test day...so a 3 carb shootout may be in the works. So that would be a 950 HP Holley vs a Pro Systems 1000HP/Venom vs a Shaker prepped 1000HP Holley?

I just realized I haven't made any updates for a while. I've been to the track twice this year. The first time Andy and I went the track was a zoo and being a street car night the track quickly disappeared. Plus quite a few oil downs and breakages on the track I was limited to 2 runs. Best one was a 11.04/125.42 with a 1.6389 60ft with a slight spin. This day I had the Prosystems carb on.
Last Friday went to TMP..track prep held for a few runs..but with a 11.1 and a 11.01 with 60's in the 1.60 to 1.62 range I was a little disappointed. This time I had the 950HP Holley back on. So if anyone who has followed this thread knows ,I've been fighting a 60 foot issue for a while. Its a combination of limited track times and also I believe blaming the wrong part. Looking at all my timeslips I haven't ran an under 1.6 60 foot in three years. Last time was before I swapped convertors and then swapped quickly back to the Continental convertor becuz of the high slippage in drive with the UCC . Friday night I realized its most likely something up with the transmission causing the slow 60 foots..first and reverse do feel a little draggy. I'm thinking the transmission was hurt 2 years ago with the higher stall of the UCC convertor. This week I'm in the process of swapping in a back up transmission to test my theory. So to make a long story short..the best 60 foot so far with 3.73 gears with a 2.75 low gear set has been 1.60 vs a 1.54 with 3.08 gears with a 2.75 low gear set. This is the issue. Last year the car would 60 foot in the 1.61 to 1.64 range with the 308's. Hopefully Sunday I can make it to a track day to test. I still fully expect to see 10.5 out of this combo with 60 foots in the 1.50 range or slightly lower eventually. The replacement transmission has the stock first gear set so if it 60's well it will confirm damage to the transmission.

You got that right! My niece was at the dragstrip Friday night and was explaining to her boyfriend who has never seen the car that 11.01 is slow for the car. Even after I put bus lengths on a 2021 Vette.

The only time everything works perfectly out of the box is on TV shows and Dyno sims. It takes determination, drive and hard work to get a combo where it should be and he’s got that covered.

Well it turned out the replacement transmission didn't work out well, it had a sloppy 2 3 shift and wouldnt hold drive.
The good thing is it actually felt better in first gear, so old transmission is going for a refresh/rebuild hopefully back together soon and running. Goal is still 10.5 this year with a 1.5 60 ft..best is 10.76/1.54

With the 2.75 first gear and the 3.73, is it shifting out of first before the 60ft?

Shouldn't even be close.
That's only a 10.25 effective ratio. You'll need more than that to make 1st gear shorter than 60 feet. I'm running one car with a 2.95 and 3.73's and a short 25.6" tire and it's still pretty far beyond the 60 before I snatch second, at least 30 feet past the box, and I'm only shifting that one at 5500. Pretty sure he's running a taller tire than that too. |
