I should get you a photo of Union Park as it is today Alvin. But I don't want you to throw up.

I used to deliver Grand Prixs and Firebirds to them in the 80s and early 90s.

There's a steel beam up there, so I think it's safe, but it's a weird way to perform maintenance on a car. Maybe this was before the widespread use of hydraulic lifts in service bays?

Perhaps a Lincoln-Mercury person can chime in here, but I seem to recall this era (1955-1956) of Mercs and Lincolns had a self-lubricating system under the car. The driver could push a button on the dash, and a series of tubes located under the car would grease all the necessary joints and bushings. Back then it was all about automation, and performing a lube job from the drivers' seat was something pretty cool.

Not sure if that's what they're servicing here, but I had these other pics that seemed to focus on the self-lubrication system.

That photo smacks more of engineering than maintenance.

All those tubes and fittings moving along with the suspension......Exposed to road hazards and the elements.......Nothing could go wrong there.

Does anyone know anything about VW buses? I don't recall ever seeing this style with glass windows in the roof area. I wanted to tag this photo with a year.

Not a vw expert, but those are the "Sixteen (or a similar #) window busses." They are fairly rare and valuable - and not very fast.

I believe it is early '60's.

I think they're called the Samba Bus. One sold last year for over $100k. They had 23 windows IIRC.

very early 60's I think.

This photo was identified as the Port of Portland in 1965.

Those VW are call TYPE2 . They come in single cab and double or crew cab pick-ups, delivery van, camper, transporter , Microbus, Kombi, and Samba.
The models closest in the picture is a Samba type 2 bus. If you look closely you can see pick-ups and other models. If you ever had to work from a pick up the VW were the best work truck. Able to drop down all sides or take them off you could have a flat bed in a matter of seconds and can load or use a fork lift from it's three sides. Plus the bed is bigger than 4'X8". Early 60's photo.

Wow, I never looked at this photo this closely! I see the pickups now, as well as the delivery van style.

Question: In the third row (or second row facing the camera), are some of the headlights missing, or is that some sort of VW special headlight?

Here's a street shot that has quite a few Pontiacs. I think I count 5 total, but there may be more.

The cars have a tape around the chrome headlamp rims, even ones close to the camera. Most likely in the pre cosmoline days
This plant is the one in Hanover.
