Default Question about Rosette Rivets

I have been doing a little research on my 1965 GTO VIN rivet.
I notice that most have the rosette rivet.I just looked at this one on eBay and it is very similar to mine in number and has a circular rivet like mine.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pontiac-GTO-...US_Cars_Trucks

Check out picture 42.
Mine looks just like that.
Mine being a 5P366812.Very similar. So here is my question. Maybe at that time they used the circular rivets or both Vin tags were remove and replaced with the circular ones.

Would like to get a little feedback what everyone else thinks.

If someone has a survivor from Pontiac,Michigan plant with round rivets I guess would help solve the question.

Keith Seymour on this board has a very low mileage 65 that his dad bought new. This topic has been discussed before I think and Keith had some comments on the subject; i just can't remember what he had to say. He usually checks this board during the week, maybe he'll answer this post on Monday.

The one's in the picture don't look like they are even stainless steel, they looked like they were removed for paint and put back on.

Not a '65, but my parents bought mine original as a special order out of the Pontiac plant. It's had a respray but the firewall, vinyl top, trunk and door jambs are still original. It has the rosette rivets on the drivers side post vin plate.

I agree with John62 that the eBay car plate looks like it may have been removed for paint and polished.

My car has round rivets.

Built September of 1964 in Pontiac Michigan.

We are thinking the rivet style was changed some time during the 1965 model year.

August of 1965 seems awfully late, though, for round rivets.

Look at post #7 member 242177P
Just curious as to why you specifically mentioned post #7, since 242177P was re-educated in post #15 and he admitted he was thinking of the wrong model year in post #19 of the linked thread.

Also: Lust4speed has some interesting input in post #20, which goes against the "changed over during the '65 model year" theory. There certainly was some variation between final assembly plants but 2 years seems a bit excessive.

Found these while looking for something else.

Rosette rivets on an 06B Pontiac built '65 GTO.

Referring to this data point I would expect anything built after June in Pontiac (at a minimum) to have rosette rivets, assuming they changed over once and didn't flip back and forth.

Default Delivery Date Stamp

I see in post #11 the Fremont VIN shows the delivery date stamp (I think?).

I have seen this before on some early VIN, but not common.

My 65 does not have this, so I guess it was a dealer decision?
