1966 GTO survivor on eBay
Has anyone checked out this car on eBay, item number 181556000251? I went and checked it out today and couldn't believe how nice it actually is. It's a local car that according to the original owner's son never saw rain until they sold it to the folks that have it listed. It's a black, on black on black, Tri-Power, 4 speed car that is awesome. I took 98 photos of it myself. Until I took the original redline spare out he didn't know what it had. It's treasure trove of history with it being almost all the original. Someone changed the water pump recently as well as the master cylinder and some wrong color engine paint. It was neat to see another manufacturer of the power brake booster hose. This one was made by SWAN not GATES. Also the original radiator hoses have all the markings still intact. My pictures show that now many of the ones he has on the auction do. I don't have anything to do with the car but thought others would like to see it.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/181556000251...251%26_rdc%3D1 Looks like a very nice car. I believe I would put a new exhaust system on it, but keep everything else as is!

In fact, for what survivor cars go for, I would say $60K is too low. I would try for around $95K to start with. A true survivor triple black 66' GTO, red fender liner, 4 speed, 389 with 3x2's??!!.....I would say thats about as desireable as it gets in the 64'-67' GTO world.

I love everything about this car but the price. I do not remember seeing any similar 1966 GTO survivor selling for this price. It will be interesting to see how long it takes to sell. Again, it is an amazing find.

Yea, it's probably a little too high. Maybe 50k or so to someone who really wants a car like that. Problem is the mileage is a little high to bring the big bucks. 95k is crazy money for that car. Money like that is reserved for cars in the 3-5k mile rangel

Engine is incorrect color for '66, wrong air cleaners, clearly not original exhaust, highly optioned car but has poverty caps (they weren't all that popular on a GTO back then, especially a highly optioned car), all on an 'original' car with only 35k miles on it?
I only looked for a brief moment. It may be a very nice car, but not. $95k car. I've seen cars that are way more original than this. In fact I don't think it is worth the $59k. If it were a convertible, maybe.

Don't get me wrong, I would like to have this car. It would make an excellent driver as is & with some work you could show it as a factory original at car shows. It would also be a great car to do a complete frame off restoration on. It just seems to me to be too high priced for what it is, a mostly original car in need of a complete restoration. Jerry.

NO WAY NO HOW...
...is that thing worth the $. Clearly been touched by two many wrong hands.
Cool car! but the asking is way off the scale. Hell this '66 couldn't even get the 55K asking and IMO was a far better "SURVIVOR" http://barnfinds.com/pickled-goat-1966-pontiac-gto/

It always amazes me that folks that are asking top dollar won't show PHS documentation!
Cool car all the same & I'd like to hear those glass packs bark when all three carbs are dumped!

I'm no expert, but......

If the paint is indeed "Factory Original" along with the complete drive train and documentation proves this car legit than I would consider it a Survivor based on the "Survivor Collector Car" (Bloomington Gold) guidelines. If any automobile is repainted, it is NOT considered a Survivor!

They say the driver's side door was repainted many years ago.

Stop it!
There are certain percentage amounts needed in the judging of factory paint, interior, drive train, etc. for a car to be considered a Survivor or even the higher grades such as "Freeze Frame" and the ultimate "ZZenith" Consult the Survivor Collector Car guidelines.

The folks that have the car now are trying to be as honest as possible and are good people. I went back yesterday and took another 100 pictures of it for documentation. The PHS report confirms everything that the car has on it. As for wood grain on the console 66s NEVER had wood plastic or real. The dash wood is in perfect condition however. The original owner had Cragers on it probably from near new. The old steel wheels have the date code correct to the car. I was just happy to be able to check it out and get the pictures. As for the valve cover on wrong he said the owner also have after market one on it for many years and when they put the original ones on they just made a mistake. I've never seen that on any other GTO He does have the original carb filter lids and bases and no idea why they added the fairly new ones. A true survivor with some super minor problems.

60 has it right using the guidelines set forth is a more accurate way to define these little gems. My post/point was just to show the value set on the Black 66 IMO not realistic. Me I prefer time capsules; Put away & Forgotten... http://bringatrailer.com/2010/07/28/...ontiac-lemans/
