Red face so here goes...70 Lemans sport resto...

So i decided to make this since i have seen a couple of them on here, and it seems like a great way to document my restoration in its entirety.

so may of 2012 i decided to sell my 69 el camino and search for another project car to have some good ole fashion fun with.

I was looking around on craigslist and found a 70 lemans sport 350, granada gold with a sandlewood interior (he tried to dye the interior black and did a horrible job), numbers matching car.
I started gathering all the parts i needed (with some help from you guys!) and now i have decided to finally take the plunge and do a full resto (not a frame off but you get the picture) i have been meticulously sanding down every piece and taking pictures as i go along. i hope you enjoy.
i attached some pictures of what i have currently done to it. - Andrew

Awesome! Can't wait to watch the progress! Just like my '70 Grenada Gold LeMans, but it looks like you have a much better starting point. My floors and quarters had already been replaced, but the frame was left to rot.

Great car to restore with an awesome color combo! Hope you can save the sandlewood interior. Some pics along the way would be nice!

Granada Gold is my favorite Pontiac color. In fact, I like it so much I had my Stratocaster painted that color! You just don't see that shade anywhere.

BTW - I just realized I misspelled "Granada" in my last post. I was half-awake feeding the baby when I wrote that.

Thanks guys!
i just ripped off the rear bumper and surprisingly enough i was delighted to find no rust at all!
...and some totally re-useable taillights.

now i need to get started on the suspension work today...

There's before and after pics attached also.

Man, you southerners have it made. The rear body brace on my car (the panel behind the bumper) is Swiss cheese. Just one of the many bits of metal to be cut out and replaced eventually.

Man thats a bummer, ill bet it will make her that much more worth it in the end though

and yeah most of the car is pretty fortunately rust free but i have ran into a rusted-out hiccup or two... i wont point fingers....*ahem* radiator core support *ahem*

the battery decided to spew all of its contents on down from the battery tray though the core support and pretty much ruined that entire side of the support. (rusted to hell along with the battery tray)

Subscribing... always nice to see another '70 Lemans Sport getting some "love."

Question

Can anyone tell me what was changed from the 70 tempest to the 71 lemans and what makes the 71 a sport? Thank You Randy.

70 Tempest changed to T-37 only for 71
70 Lemans to same
70 Lemans Sport to same

Biggest change is front end, chrome bumper to Fiberglass/chrome

In 71, a Lemans Sport gave you upgraded interior (same as GTO) wheel and rocker moldings and some other goodies.

Nope, but a clone. I had the body and neck custom made for the project. I wanted a Strat that looked like a 1970 model to compliment the car, but it's really closer in spec to an earlier Strat. Also, instead of the Fender "F" neck plate, I created the serial number "1970" and had it engraved on a blank one.

i know its been a while since i posted last, heres an update though:
The trunk lid i bought from a member on here turned out to be a scam and i lost 150 dollars and a bunch of time... i havent done much on her because i am low on money and the trunk was really one of the last things i needed before paint. i have sanded her down for the most part and shes ready for a nice coat of primer, ill upload pics when i can. i am trying to get the 350 engine professionally rebuilt by a mechanic friend and that should be done before new years - hopefully. anyways, i hope everyone has a great thanksgiving if i dont hear from any of you! - Andrew
