Anymore information like CR or cam specs given?
Good luck ! Typically they are Secret Squirrels regarding cam specs. .

Thanks. I was just looking to see how close or far away it was from something I had simulated in Desktop Dyno. Stan

Maybe we're doing chit wrong but we made 735 on pump gas with a factory block recently. Another Pontiac builder was North of 900 with pump gas and an aftermarket block. Both builds used Hi-ports.
That Motortend build is 20 HP stronger than a members 455 aluminum D-port factory block build using a similar spec standard core camshaft but he was 46 CID less. I would think maybe our Dyno was happy but all three engines were pulled on different dyno's. FWIW |

You were using a 115 LSA? Stan

Hi Stan.... No, we use the wide LSA's like that for 1,000+ NA builds and some forced induction combinations. We also used a lot less lift. Duration at .050 was about the same..... So maybe we weren't as similar as I initially thought.
That's a pretty exotic build (the Motortrend). I'm guessing it went into a big dollar pro touring type car.... Probably idles really well. Last edited by PAUL K; 03-30-2024 at 10:38 AM. |

Paul's comment regarding engines being pulled on different dyno's is very appropriate. Dyno results can vary all over the map.
Much depends on both the facility involved and also the operator. From the internet... Westech has an optimized, sealed dyno cell with blow-through fans (you can barely open the cell doors with them on), plus strictly controlled coolant and oil temps. Typically Westech's engine dyno runs start at a 140-degree F coolant temp and (at worst) end with the temp no higher than 160 degrees. Great for generating accurate and repeatable numbers (Westech routinely recalibrates its dyno) .

Pump-gas 535ci, 650hp at 5400 rpm
345 cfm Edelbrock heads Torker II intake with Quick Fuel 850 carburetor Relatively mild 248/254 XE hydraulic roller https://www.motortrend.com/how-to/cc...-alloy-indian/ The Westech dyno wouldn't hold the engine under 3000 rpm. At its lowest point on the readout it was already producing 600 ft.lbs. torque. Flat torque curve. Also keep in mind here, if you were to use a solid roller cam it would have more duration than the hydraulic roller profile. If you want the valve lift curve to be the same, the solid (Mechanical) lifter cam will be bigger at .050". .

I'd be interested in knowing the general cam specs on the 735 & 900hp builds.

That sounds more like it for a 455 cam.
Dad's in the 571 is only 261 and that 598 I bought is only 258! Both on a 112 and both hydraulic rollers. |
