When my high school 69 lost a muffler, one guy said it was the Garbage Truck Option. But he was still driving his moms 74 Monaco.....

I have had a lot of people say to me "I used to have a GTO just like that". When I tell them that it is a Firebird they suddenly don't have a lot to say.

More times than not when fueling anywhere someone will comment on the car.
Never gets old!

than what I hear the GeeTO (Geee Teee Ohh) Tiger called today. I remember when the car was being campaigned and NEVER heard it called "Gee-tow" as they claim nowadays. Sounds ridiculous!

Most "ordinary people" don't know how that GTOs and LeMans' are based on the same car. They think it's the same difference as a GTO and a Ford LTD. I always give a longer explanation.

The saddest experience I had was at the parts store a few years ago. I need a set of plugs for a 68 GTO. That's all you needed to say back in the day. Younger parts guy says, GTO? Who makes that? Pontiac. He goes back to his computer hunting. Then says, is that a 6 cylinder or 8 cylinder? The other parts guys and I just lowered and shook our heads. Much better experiences at the gas pumps!

It wouldn't of been so bad at the parts store if the kid said,
" A Ferrari GTO ?"

Default GOOD TIMES OFTEN

Somewhere in my stuff I have an old pin from one of Dennis Kirban's GTO Picnic's.
I've always liked this acronym.

With the culture back then, I always heard the acronym - Gas, Oil, Ass, or T!ts?
(especially when dragging the main drag)

Today I took my 65 GTO around thru town. Now my car is very noisy. It has a geardrive, solid lifters and an m22 for that nice 'whine'. I had the cutouts fully open on my 1-3/4 headers and was cruising along in 3rd gear about 20 mph. I come to a stop sign in front of the flower shop where about 6 or 7 guys were talking in the parking lot, about 25ft. from the road. Most of the guys looked to be early 40s and a couple maybe early 20s.
NOT ONE of those guys ever looked over to see what kind of vehicle was making so much noise. I sat there expecting at least the older guys to look but they couldn't care less! I thought to myself,'Geez, what guy doesn't look when he hears a loud car coming at him'? It should be against the law for any guy to not have an interest in cars.

It's probably because of all the rice burner type cars now a days that are loud but don't go anywhere.
(also about like the loud rap crap that is played, shaking the walls of houses)

Easier to ignore all the loud noises.

Some get it ...Some Don't.... I just had a crew of 4 guys ( 3 in mid 20's and the father late 40's ) come to my house to install some sky lights. They had to carry all their gear right past the 67 GTO....not a one of them even noticed the car or could care less...they were more interested in the 2015 GMC 2500 Z71 parked next to it !!!
