Unless your seriously road racing the car I would slowly prime the filter before screwing it on then add 7 qts of oil then make a mark on the dip stick, then add another Qt of oil ( 8 total )...

The piston speed due to stroke produces a lot faster cylinder pressure rise.

There is no seal on top of the guide if the heads are stock, and yes if the O rings are dried out I have seen them turn to rubber dust or crack and split into little pieces and the motor will smoke...
