Dyno results
Picking the engine up Friday. I'll post the dyno sheet then but it made 542hp and 581tq.
400 bored 4.155 Eagle forged crank 4.350 Billet splayed caps SRP flats Eagle H beam rods Melling 60lb pump Victor intake KRE 85cc d ports ported to 300 9 way billet double roller Holley 850xp Bullet solid flat tappet cam 250/256, 606/607, installed at 104 34deg timing Builder says carb is holding it back from full potential but I sold my Dominator as it was too much on the street for mpg. I'm happy with the results after a few problems with the build that the dyno found. Can't wait to get it on the Firebird and try it on the street. No track testing until next year as our season has finished now.

Cool.
Thanks for the info. It'll be interesting to see what it runs when spring comes around.

Glad to hear no damage was done with the low oil pressure issue.

Very nice results.
....had an UD cam with the 104 LC just like that in a 472. The 104 LC was set to 100/108 for Street effect. Idle pulses out the tail pipe were impressive. Hmmmm, have a 1970 1050 sitting on the shelf, doing nothing for nobody now.

Is an 850 carb really a restriction on a 550 horsepower engine? Hmm.
Headers are 1 3/4 or 1 7/8? |

Well he thinks it could make 600 with a bigger carb. Headers are stepped Maddog 13/4 to 17/8

any chance it wants more timing? 34 degrees seems low. compression?

Just curious how much bigger is he thinking?

Those heads with my 290b were best at 32 with 10.2 comp.
With the solid roller 34 at 10.75. Now 34 at 10.8 seemed the best He would like to see a 1000 or a dominator but that's not what I'm ever going to run so wasn't much point. Would be fun to borrow one at the track just for a few runs though.

Did they have an air hat on the engine dyno? It would be interesting to see how much air that combination actually used? Also, if no air hat, did they have a vacuum line on it for manifold vacuum?

Yes, like menshined above , a vacuum reading take below the Carb at 500 rpm below peak hp will tell you if your Carb is too small.

FWIW my 500" IA motor that dynoed 695 HP made the same with an 850 4150 as a 1050 Dominator on it.
I can tell you dynoing my friends 463 E head motor that made 640 HP with 2" headers we killed 40 hp swapping on my 1 3/4-1 7/8 Hedmans

Also on the carb issue I am running a QF 950 that I discovered is more than I need. Factory jetting was at 86/78. I am down to 82/74 and it is still rich, at least in warm/humid air. Will probably be pretty close when the cooler/drier fall air gets here.
