Default This was just weird

I took my wife to supper tonight and drove her Honda CR-V. When we came out of the restaurant and walked up to the car I noticed all the windows were down. When I looked in the car I saw that the sunroof was also open.
I have the car set to automatically lock when I walk away from it and I heard the tell-tale beep saying it had locked.
And, all the windows were up and the sunroof, which we never use was closed.
My wife had her keys but they were in her pocketbook that she carried with her to the restaurant.
I guess one of us could have accidentally hit our key fob unlocking the car but how do you explain all the windows and the sunroof being open?

I don't know about a Honda, but both my Porshe and BMW had a feature whereby if you continued to press on the door unlock button on the remote, after the doors unlocked, the windows would roll down. And if you continued to hold the unlock button, the sunroof would eventually open as well. This was supposedly to let the heat out of a hot car after sitting in the sun, before you got in the car. There was a couple of times where i sat on the remote and this happened.

This happened to my wifes' (now daughters') 18 CR-V a few times. It did turn out to be the key fob being pressed accidentally. We had to be very careful about it and it was a bit of a pain!

I was just reading on a BMW board about this same problem - for that person it turned out to be a malfunction in one of the microswitches on a door handle assembly. The microswitch closed, causing the windows to roll down and the sunroof to open.

Is it really considered a 'feature'? Wait until it happens during a torrential rainstorm to a late model acura. Ask me how I know.

Maybe that’s how that new Bronco got full of snow.

Seems like I remember a commercial for being able to drop all windows like that but can’t remember what brand it was.

This is a feature on the CRV. The button must have been inadvertently pushed and held down which rolls the windows down and roof opens. My guess is when they were placed in her purse, something pushed the button.

That sounds like a "feature" that I would not want.

You are correct. There was a TV commercial for a Volkswagon Jetta or Passat that highlighted that gadgetry, about 8-10 years ago.

My 03 Accord had the same feature, never opened accidentally. I did use it occasionally on really hot days. I never used the sunroof not even with that feature.

The feature may be able to be turned off. Even going back to 2006 on the civics I have, you can turn on and off certain amenities like auto-lock, or the A/C compressor running in the defrost mode, etc. There are youtube vids about this sort of stuff and it never hurts to RTFM.

That is what it was. I tried it with my key fob and it rolled all the windows down and opened the sunroof. I had to hold the button until they were all the way open though. I did not know about this feature but, now that I do, it may come in handy this summer.

My GM trucks are programmed to do this too.

I tried the same procedure om my 2018 GMC but it didn't work. Is there another button sequence for it?

My Mercedes does it too. The remote will also close the windows/sunroof by holding 'lock' button.

Similar happened to me. I bought a new to me work truck in the fall. 2013 f150. My son and I were at HD. We came out and our truck was running! I had to do a second take to make sure it was our vehicle, most white trucks look alike!! Anyway, doors locked motor running strong. Confused we got in and drove away. Long story short we figured it had a remote start, a feature I have never had before and thought was a bit silly. My son drives most of the time and has a habit of clicking the lock button several times to make sure the truck is indeed locked. So, once it beeps, hit twice and the motor starts. Learn something new every day.
