SEM makes a 2 part product in tubes very similar to the 3m, think its called flex wled or something like that. excellent quality & sands smooth, i used it on my 72 firebird nose & some homeycomb wheels that needed some repair.

The Bondo is just 3m re-named if I'm not mistaken. 3m owns Bondo now and I guess they preferred to put the Bondo name on it for some reason.

The Bondo is similar to the 3M, but in my experience the 3M is much easier to sand.
If all you can find is the Bondo I would use it, but if you have a large amount of repair the 5887 might save you some time. Note that you need a twin-tube cartridge gun to dispense it and they are not cheap.

I have the original 3m and The rebranded bondo version. The tubes I have look and sand the same, maybe they changed the formula since you used it? You right though would need a bunch if you have any sizeable repairs.

It was about 3 years ago that I tried both, so maybe it is now improved?
The Bondo mixed to a black colour while the 3M was more dark grey. They were definitely a different product when I used them.
