I have noticed that I have a few stripped threads on my TH400 trans pan. What thread are they and can I re tap and go up a size in bolts?
Thanks in advance. |

5/16 18. Helicoil them. You can even do it with the pan in place

You might get lucy and run a tread chaser in the holes, they dont cut new threads just chase out bad ones.
Otherwise as staded its time to Helicoil them. |

Once you get the threads back in shape then use studs and nuts you will never have that issue again plus the pan will relocate a lot easier the next time drop it for a filter & fluid change!

Yep, heli-coils are a breeze on the pan holes. If you don't want to stud them all ... one in each corner would sure be helpful lining up the pan and gasket.

Thanks everyone for your help. I assume I need to buy a kit for the helicoils. presumably I just get a 5/16 - 18 kit? Thanks again.

The kits come with everything but the needed drill bit, but the face of the kit will tell you what size drill bit you need, which you might have already at home.
