461 Front Counterweight Clearance
I’m mocking the build on a 400 stroker right now and had to massage the front drivers side of the block to get the crankshaft to rotate. After working it for a bit, I’ve got a little north of .030 clearance between the counterweight and block.
I just referenced a stock 455 I have and it’s got around .055 of clearance in the same spot and wasn’t able to find anything on the forum about how much clearance is enough. Is there a general consensus on how much it should be? Thanks in advance!

From what I have seen 0.060 to 0.080 clearance...

Definitely a non-critical area. I usually just grind that area down on my preliminary cleanup if an aftermarket crank will be in the works. Better to get the dirty stuff out of the way early before you break out the bearings or crank. Figure if that counterweight moves over even a few thousandths there's a much more serious problem to worry about than that clearance.

.030” is fine unless you where going to be making over 650 hp with a steel crank!
If things where to flex ( block or crank ) around enough to need more then that ,030” then you have a motor that will fail in short order anyway! If it will help you to sleep better then go for a additional.010” and make it .040”.
