Default 1968 Side View mirror

Let me see your original. Was more than one type used? All the repops have the 'smooth' rounded edges. I thought the original had a hard break around the edge.
Couple of pics of my first...you can hardly make out what I'm talking about though.

Yeap. Thinking 66-68 or 65-68 Remotes were same. Rebuilt mine.

Here's an original standard mirror next to a repro. The repro has much more pronounced ridge on it. Hmm, maybe I should get my original rechromed. On second thought, based on Greg's comments - is it possible there were two styles in '68 depending on the factory or supplier?

The mirror kk68 posted above is the one that I'm almost sure came on my standard equipped Mayfair Maize car posted above. Now, only the remote mirrors come that way as far as I can tell. Maybe my memory is hazy on that? It's hard to be certain from my old photos above.
Anyway, the one Ken posted is the one I got in the mail yesterday and what peeves me just a bit is that it's the same one I already have on my car. Ames doesn't show a photo of it in the catalog but they do show the remote mirror.
I guess I'll keep it. The one I bought several years ago is loose on the adjuster ball and is already showing some road rash and glass flaking a bit around the edge. Heck, now that I have two I might put one on the passenger side door.

From what I can remember and it's been a while, the one they sell states it's for 67-68, but they were not the same from 67 to 68, it's correct for 67.

At one time I remember reading that but I'm not sure if it was in the Ames catalog, I'm wondering where Ken got the one that's on his car.

It most likely comes down to it's close enough and will work and probably just not profitable to manufacture a specific correct 68 style mirror.

I had a similar experience with the repop. I’m on my second one because the first got loose after a couple years. The new one is tighter and fits the bracket more positively. The first one would also occasionally knock itself loose from the vibration of the door closing. Never really noticed the difference I profile between the original until now. I think I got the one that’s on my car now from Ames.

Frank, I did notice in the Ames catalog that they state that it's correct for '67-'68. I thought the same as you that they should have been different.
Haven't looked at the Zazarine book in a while. It may show those mirrors. It's generally a good source for that kind of detail.

Just happen to have mine, 'Zazarine book', at my feet but didn't see it pictured, goes into good detail on the remote mirror but not much on the standard unit.

The retainer was the same from 65 - 68, hence the 67 will fit and work.

Edit: Shows remote control mirror on page 53.

Does anybody know if there was a difference in the placement of the mirror on the door for standard Vs. Remote? I took a standard off my door to install a remote mirror....now I can't open my vent window because it hits the mirror casing!!!!
