64 GTO Los Angeles Craiglist
Saw this on BarnFinds,

I am not familiar with this car.
This may not mean anything - but in image 5 the cowl tag has been touched. It appears the tops of the numbers have been sanded for easier reading. It should either be fully painted (most plants) or masked off unpainted for Fremont builds. Underhood black looks a bit glossy to me, compared to my car. But - my car was not stored out west in a climate controlled garage. K

Went I first saw the 100 grand price I thought WTF. Then I looked at all the photos and read the listing. If Steve Ames paid 146 grand for a damaged Cameo pickup with no miles, a 100 grand for this '64 with 1200 miles on it seems plausible.

No way that engine compartment is original as built. At the very least the engine compartment has been restored to some extent. Not saying that is a bad thing, just the representation of the car is a bit misleading.

With 1200 miles? Its possible. The intake has slight burning at the choke tubes. More miles, it would be much worse.

Was teflon tape standard on tripower fuel lines in '64?

Curious car.
For starters, 1) Has the early blank LH valve cover which may indicate an early build. 2) Wrong fan and pulley on alternator. 3) All the factory vacuum linkage has been replaced. Speed shop RH link arm. 4) Air condition fan shroud. 5) Looks to have a later oil filler cap with the round vent holes. 6) Throttle blade shaft sticking out on RH side. 7) Entire engine has been painted. 8) Possibly a water pump change. Different casting. Chris

This was discussed in the “Epic CRAIGSLIST” thread.
As I said in that one, I have a hard time believing that engine sits “as delivered.” The stuff Chris brings up below makes me doubt the mileage.

That price range is realistic given the last few years auction results but with 1300 miles I'd like to know why the fan shroud has been changed. It would be nice to have the original tires and belts even if they have been replaced for safety.

Highly doubtful. Just sitting around for 50 years the paint and parts would show some corrosion and patina. The paint they threw on things back in the day rarely covered everything, was horribly thin and does not weather well over time. Even the chrome was thin and would show some issues by now even if all it did was sit around. For example, ours sat for 20 some years, most of that inside and still the chrome on the engine had those ugly rust bumps all over.

Only 7 photos, and none of the entire interior or trunk. Plus, it ain’t even close to a 100K car. PS, it’s still on Barn Finds.

With the changes 60sstuff posted, you would have to really want that car and it would never really be worth 100K (in my opinion). Not even 1/2 that amount.

I am certainly not a GTO expert like some in this thread. But being around the hobby for nearly 50 years, the engine compartment looks too detailed and the engine paint too bright and clean to be OE even with only 1200 miles on it. It may mean absolutely nothing, but if you look closely at the pic of the speedometer and odometer, it looks like the first three digits are rolled upward some. I have found that to be the way many odometers look when they have been rolled over or rolled back. It could just be the angle of the pic or possibly it's normal, but doesn't look quite right to me. Not saying it has over 100K on it, but 1200 miles? Why? I would want the full, true accurate story.

Nice Observation Mike on the Odometer.
They should all be evenly centered when new and each one changing slightly as the miles grow over the years. I looked at my odometer and even with 76,000 on the odometer it does not look like that at all. Be careful out there. Tom V.

My guess is that the seller is not a'car guy' and bought it for an investment. The car looks restored all the way to me. I've owned low mileage cars (none with only 1200 miles though) and this isn't one. Even has reproduction battery cables (notice the terminal end is bigger than an original one). The silver metallic paint in those years was NOT good and would need repainting in just a few thousand miles and it was not as shiny as this one. As most have posted there is no way that is an untouched engine compartment. Definitely NOT a 100k car, not even a 50k car.
