I believe they dropped the idler pulley in 72 at one point?
Are you replacing an original?

I posted a service bulletin somewhere on here I think?

Well, it didn't apply to Firebirds.

Are you adding a 80 amp alternator or was it original?

I'm assuming your Formula came equipped with 80-amp Delco, A/C, Rear Window De-Fog or Heated Rear Window???

As far as I know the part numbers never changed from 1971 to 1976 except, for the pulley mounting bracket. Here's the numbers to bounce off what you have. '71-76 idler pulley is 1492280. '71 (only) Idler pulley bracket is 9790675. '72-'76 Idler pulley bracket is 486006. '71-'76 Idler pulley plate spacer is 548375. Idler pulley bracket spacer (13/32" long) is 532874.

A member here named.....RFCOLEMAN dug me up a set out of his stash. Great guy! He may have another set, I don't know

Hope this helps

Assuming in Canada, Generator is the common term for Alternator in the states.

I was around when generators were all there was....anyway

Don't know if this is what you need. Some pics I got off the Web long time ago for 80amp & how it bolts up...

Thankyou John. Have referenced that exact illustration for near the last 35 years, as have pulled many Pontiac 80 amp only parts, & put numerous complete "F-body" set-ups together. First complete set was for my '72 T/A, it took several years to complete, as even hitting boneyards every week, it was rare to find original idler pulley set-ups on yard cars. crazy thing is nearly every '71-76 Bird in my region originally came with factory AC, just few had the rear defrost as well. With many cars that originally had them, many of these original parts had been chunked.

Referenced part:

#2 PULLEY, there are at least 2 different original Pontiac versions of these. the earliest is not rebuildable. 18 months ago thought we'd found a board member, Pepi, to rebuild this early version, but he was rebuilding the later style. With the much most common version there is access to remove the small bearing. have rebuilt several of the later style myself over the years.

Will also throw this out, there are numerous other same stagger, near same diam v groove idler pulleys out there. Ford used at least two different versions in the late '60's & early '70's that are very close. There also is an oddly ribbed cast alum over the counter version of one of the Ford idler pulleys.

#20 BRACKET (aka alum pivot block) there are two different part numbers of these. The part number on the casting is not noticeable once installed, but some partsbook Poindexter types are out there.

Modern day issue's, was noted by njsteve last year; belt choice/belt squealing issues:

With the large span adjustable front alt mtg plate which was used on all late '71+ A & G series, as well as all B series, as the engine torqued over, the 80 amp alternator would hit a brace on the inner hood on TransAm hoods (and I'd assume Formula & regular steel Firebird hoods).Pontiac Engineering decided thus Firebird's had to have the stationary mounted front alt mtg plate. The pass side cyl head mounted idler pulley set-up was required for belt adjustment.

As noted in the link, Steve modified one of the more common front mtg plates so as the long belt he picked could be tightened properly. By shortening the adjustment slot, the alt (on I assume it was his Grandma's car) did not rub the hood.

On idler pulley brackets & pulley, currently am piecing together a complete setup with rebuilt correct date 1015 alt for a late June built '73 SD car. Preparing to replate all correct bolts & spacers I have. Can go through the remainder of the 80 amp parts tubs, but don't believe will have an idler pulley asm to spare. Do have the Feb '72 stamped 1015, mentioned previously, gobs of other '71-73 pieces as well.
