GMC or Buick
I’m in the market for a new SUV. Looking at the GMC Acadia, or the Buick Enclave. I really want a Jeep Grand Cherokee but Mike says Jeep is junk. Any thoughts on the GMC or the Buick? Anyone here have either? I have an 08 Mercury Mariner now, but it’s time for an up grade.

Been there recently, the the Buick and GMC are really the same, different badging. The Buick was more expensive IIRC, A tossup in my opinion.
I have a Grand Cherokee, 2013 with the 5.7L Hemi. Great ride and fun to drive, nimble and quick. I drove an Acadia, they only come with a 3.7L V6, nowhere near the performance of the V8 in that size of SUV. If you are comfortable with the V6, they are nice rides. George

FYI,the 4 GM cars are not the same. The Acadia and the new Cad XT6 have the 113 WB chassis and the Buick and the Chevy are on a 120 WB.The short wheel base does not allow a adult to really sit in the 3rd row and the 120 does. Also when the 3rd seat is up there is almost no room behind it.I almost bought the Traverse a month or so ago but bought a bigger trailer boat and needed a V8 so bought the Yukon.I really liked the Traverse!Tom

I don’t mind a 6cyl. as my everyday car, my Mariner is a 6. The Cadillac is out of my price range. I put very few miles on a car, and I feel like the 6cyl. Today are pretty snappy on the highway, I’m guessing the GMC and Buick are pretty much the same car internally.

I would get the Caddy. Make sure you get the AWD. Best one overall in the GM line up, IMO.

There are some weird deals that GM does.If you want the look around cameras in the Acadia you have to get the Denali,im the Traverse you can get it in the Leather model. For my money it would be the Traverse or the Buick.Because they are FWD you cant get 4WD,you have to move up to the full size.My wife drives the Escalade 4WD for when we go to the Sierras in the snow. And dont let anyone tell you AWD is the same as 4WD,its good but nowhere near as good as 4WD when you need it.Tom

AWD is also a PITA when it comes to tires. Cannot buy 1 or 2, must buy 4 and they all must be same brand and size. GM's are known for toasting trannys if you don't but any AWD will still have issues if tires do not match.

The wife has an all terrain Acadia. No 3rd row seating in that version which we don’t need so we like that package. V6 is very peppy and pretty good on gas. It’s switchable from fwd to awd. Only thing is with the bigger rims the ride quality suffers.

Well I had a 2009 Challenger R/T 5.7 and I absolutely loved that car. I did a dealer buy back last year to be able to buy my Bandit TA. The Challenger only had 6200 miles on it, and in the time I had it, I got 7 recalls on various things. So Mike said, no more Dodge or jeeps. A co worker of his has a Jeep renagade and the thing is always in the shop. I personally love jeeps. I really like the Escalade trim package available on the Acadia, I love chrome!! The Enclave is just so so in appearance, but there are always deals on them. The Cadillac is just not possible, Youkon is to big, Encore to small.

The Buick and GMC are not the same. They have some packages that overlap but they are for different demographics. Drive both of them and decide. The Buick will be quieter inside because of their materials and sound deadening. My dad just bought an Enclave and loves it. My buddy was looking at the Traverse because of the the price versus the Buick. I told him to go and drive both and he was amazed how nice the Buick was. The dealer gave him a great deal for a nicer Buick with the chrome wheels and all of the extra safety features. Drive both and see what each dealer will do. I don't think in this day and age you can see any brand is junk because the market is so competitive. Look at any and drive them to see what you like.

I thought you had to be at least 65 years old to own a Buick???
You are too young for a Buick, go with the Jeep! |

You need to be a cigar smoker to own a Buick.

Sure are a lot of stereotypes being tossed around in this discussion...it would be nice to see actual personal experiences instead of memes and opinions.

Listen mouse, it’s all good but the one thing that’s a must for me is that really cool back hatch open and close with the foot option. I’m only 5’4” and my Mercury rear hatch goes up and I have to stand on my toes to reach the hand pockets to pull it down. I hate it! My strength level don’t always cooperate to grab the hand cups.

I was looking at the Encore, but the cargo space is to tiny for groceries and plants, and I buy a lot of plants lol. the Enclave is bigger.

After driving GM cars for pretty much all of my adult life, I recently got rid of my Cadillac and bought a 2018 Toyota Highlander last year! (Que the bashing). Has all kinds of bells/whistles, but it's an SUV, not a luxury car, so it rides like it. A lot of room, auto rear hatch, dynamic cruise control, backup cameras, lane departure, and a ton of other gizmo's! Has 4 buckets and third row seating which is tight for large people. Overall a very nice vehicle though.
