Default Pikes Peak Hill Climb?

Has anyone here ever raced the Pikes Peak Hill Climb? It is a local race for me and something I have always wanted to do so I am really looking into it for the 2020 race. I would use my 81 Trans Am with the 406 and B/W 4 speed.

Its invite only right? I do a 2.3 mile 500' climb in Wisconsin with my '67 GTO. Speeds come close to 90mph and the danger level is sky high. 0 room for error. We get like 5-6 runs on a Saturday. It's a huge thrill. I can't imagine running pikes peak. That would be intense.

Way to go Nick! That's the way to enjoy your Pontiac.
Hillclimbs like that were popular in the Eifel Mountains where I was stationed for three years.

They used to have hill climbs all over this area. That is before lawyers got involved. There were abandoned sections of highway 299 that went to the timber companies when the road was moved/modernized. They used to have dirt bike hill climbs/enduros before everyone sued people kind enough to let their property be used for things like that.
Now all the enviros have all the river bars and beaches gated off, its discussing. Its where we all used to hang out in the summer time as kids.
Dirt bike, 4x4, fishing pole and a .22 was a great time.

Man I have not. I raced the Baja 1000 in a Cummins/Dodge second gen a couple of years ago with Roger England. He's, Roger Dale England (on FB), has and raced the same truck on pikes peak. Ping him on FB, he's a great guy and I'm sure he'd be happy to give you some feedback.

Pikes Peak is one of the Optima venues for its OUSCA event, lots of nice cars will be there.

That is the race track in the same area, it's not the hillclimb, two different venues.

We used to have a common poster here that did hill climbs in his 81. I think it went off in one race and he was rebuilding it.

In car video really puts it in perspective
I DROVE up Mt Washington once, and that put me at the limit of my comfort zone.

It might be a bridge too far but I'll start next week with a time attack clinic and practice race.

I hate to say this but after spending a couple of hours in the PPHC rulebook, it would be far easier for me prep the bracket car instead of the 81. I already have a rollbar for the start of the full cage I will need. I'd be doing the my Big Red Camaro impression but I really don't know if I want to hack up the 81 to the point I would have to.
