Default Peter Tork passes

Peter Tork of The Monkees passed away today at age 77. I always enjoyed their music and still have some of their songs on my playlist. Plus, they had a cool ride.

Doesn't seem like he should be 77 years old. I was a fan of the show when I was a kid - always wanted to get the model of the Monkeemobile but never did.

I have these two in my antiques showcase.

He and Mike Nesmith were the 2 real musicians in the band. I heard a rumor Stephen Stills tried out for the show but was rejected because they didn’t like his hair & teeth. Could you imagine Crosby,Tork,Nash & Young?

I met Micky and Mike, but never got to meet Peter. My brother managed to meet Peter not too long ago. As a result, his copy of their first album now has all the Monkees signatures

The Monkees resurgence in the '80s was definitely a catalyst in my interest in GTOs. I still have a pretty large chunk of Monkees albums in my record collection. If you haven't seen it, the movie Head is definitely a trip and a time capsule. He'll be missed.

...my brother was "this close" to buying a monkeymobile. We had to talk him off the ledge.

If I had the means, I'd totally buy a Monkeemobile. A friend of mine got to do some resto work on one of them a few years back.

Just had to watch "Head" today, I think it is a very underrated movie. I have been collecting Monkee memorabilia for many years, got all thier albums, CD's, DVD's ECT...
Fortunately my wife and I were able to go to a couple of the reunion concerts, very enjoyable.

RIP Peter Tork, you will be missed.

RIP Peter. When I was growing up, it wasn't "cool" to like the Monkees. If you liked rock music you had to only listen to "real bands and musicians". Well, it took a while but I became a fan later of many of those bubble gum bands. The Monkees had excellent production, great song writers and they sang together really well too. They were good enough on their instruments to tour live and had excellent players with them to fill out the sound. Who doesn't like Day Dream Believer, Pleasant Valley Sunday, She, Last Train to Clarksville? The show was fun, stylish and a great escape. Got to see Micky Dolenz live about 5 years ago as part of a retro act. He sounded great. Peter was the funny one on the show who was so laid back, you would think he would live forever. RIP

Yeah nobody wanted to be known as a Monkee's fan (unless you were a young girl). Similar to liking John Denver or the Carpenters music.
He'd had cancer a few years back, I had been wondering how he was doing?
In a documentary about the Monkee's, back in the day, he had brought "something" back in his luggage from a trip to Mexico.....this allowed him the privilege to spend, I think 6 months at the federal prison that is on the outskirts of the town I live in today!

I like the Monkees ... but I'll have to reserve judgement on Peter, he came into our bar in the 80's while playing a show in upstate NY and was a total A-hole. He had 19 year old college girls going out and buying cocaine for him. Basically had to ask him to leave and go back to the bar where he was playing.

The cover of More of the Monkees was taken from a JCPenney photo shoot. The band apparently didn’t even know the album was going to be released. Nesmith hated that album. It led to a fall out with Don Kirshner which resulted in the guys making their an album that they actually played and wrote songs for, Headquarters.

Crazy after all these years that they’re finally getting their due to some degree.

I think I might sell these two albums. I really need to start down sizing my stuff.
