Judging by how the bodywork on the rear of that wagon wraps around them, those taillights were factory installed. Maybe it was built somewhere else besides an US assembly plant?

The chev was factory RHD,so my guess made in Canada, the body was rough with the rear pannels full of bondo and shaped with a 9 inch grinder.
Had 327 badges with nissan power

Those taillights may be local requirements.

European vehicles are required to have amber turn signals. Those look like old Ford Courier or similiar tail lamps cobbed onto that Chevy II wagon.

GM made a lot of unique vehicles for South America and Asia that we never got here.

Hi John
Is that Classic Car yard on the road out of Bangkok on the way to Kanchanaburi (Bridge on the River Kwai)?

I was up there year before last and saw a very similar looking place as we went past. Not enough time to stop that time but I'm going back next year.

Hi Ian
No its down past Rayon ,way south of Bangers,I am here in Thailand for an extended break from work till maybe june next year till my job begins again,
I can get extended visa as I am married to a Thai gal.

Allways on the the lookout for something interesting so will keep this thread going,I think a lot of the old cars are scraped as the thais have more cash now and must have a new ute.
Holdens were a plenty many years ago, been here 4 weeks now and not one to be seen.

Spotted this pickup today in the local hardware store.

Have your kids spotted my Bonneville yet,he has it on club rego now

Can somebody id this truck for me as I will talk to him ,with my translater one day.

Perhaps.

In some (export) countries there are regulations defining the amount of "local content" required.

That results in bizarre looking things like '73-'87 Chevy pickups with 68-72 taillamps and such.

Here in Australia after when indicators became mandatory fitment (about 1960), ALL cars had to have rear amber turn indicators. And it was not enough to just fit an amber globe behind a white lens, it had to be regulated amber plastic lens which also had to show the makers name embossed into the plastic.

It was ridiculous. My 1965 Bonneville was imported here brand new and had to be converted to RHD before it was sold. To overcome the rear amber lens requirements, the rear back up lights have a specially made amber lens fitted which sits behind the clear lens. So the back up light flashed amber when turning.

Most of those regulations have gone now what with the massive amounts of imported cars coming into the country. The authorities seem to just accept what the overseas manufacturers deem to be "stylish"....

I think in the case of that Nova wagon in Thailand, it would have simply been the same regulations. All Thai cars I have ever seen over there had amber indicators so whoever imported that car, just grafted in a set of lamps off some other car and the regulations were satisfied.

I was thinking the sheet metal was actually shaped differently on the Chevy II in Thailand compared to the other photo that was posted, but now that I look at it again I'm not sure that's the case. Also, the taillight lenses don't look like they fit very well, so maybe at some point an owner needed replacements and simply found some that were close enough.

Perhaps the taillights are from the Acadian?

Stuart, it could also be a Plymouth pickup. My neighbor here had a 47 Plymouth pickup in his garage until he passed away, and it looked the same as John shows in his photo.

Dodge and Plymouth were very similar trucks back then.
