Question Firewall Pad Installation

I'm replacing the jute backed firewall pad on my '73 Firebird. What should I use as adhesive / sealant around the various openings? The factory appears to have used a hard setting sealant. This is the firewall pad sold by AMES. Is there a better pad out there?

There are two types of firewall "plugs" that hold in the pad. One set are hard plastic repops and come with a new pad, the other are more like original rubber and are much easier to work with. I use 3m spray adhesive. The was also a insulator "pad" with black plastic up underside of the wiper transmission area. I used some peal and stick stuff from Home depot for that .
