Intake Carb pictures needed
I'm trying to get my carb/intake sorted.
I need pictures of original 68 GTOs with air cleaner removed. Of specific interest is the PCV nipple on the intake (seems awful close to fuel inlet), the vacuum port at the rear of the carb for cars WITH AC, PB, hideaways and Auto Trans. (the complicated adapter that screwed into the rear of the carb) The vacuum line from carb/intake/TVS to dist., auto trans vacuum line. Any plugs and nipples in the intake manifold. Lots of under hood pictures out there but not many original cars with the air cleaner off. So many cars have had this stuff modified or changed in some way it's hard to sort out. |

Won't be much help but I think the '68s had at least one hollow stud for the carb mount used for vacuum. True that the PCV fitting is very close to the fuel inlet...I believe that is correct as far as that goes.
Part of the reason for this response is to just see if I can do it. I can only read one in maybe twenty threads.

I've got mine sorta setup in the right way. My vacuum fitting on the back isn't an original, but it's close. I've got a diagram somewhere - maybe in the resto guide. I think the hollow stud was on the manual cars?

I installed the Qjet bolt kit from Ames and it has the hollow stud ... far as I can tell from the 69 assembly manual it goes on the right side rear ... didn't specify auto or manual. I think it's just a testing port, not used for anything.
PCV fitting is ok now with a gasket under the carb. I did find a place in the assembly manual (again for a 68 not 68) which shows me what back size vacuum fitting I should use with auto and PB. Getting close now, just need the fitting for the line to the vacuum switch in the air cleaner, and have to find out if I need the hard line which bolts to the top of the carb and goes from somewhere to somewhere |

Dataway, here’s a few pics of the setup on my 68 with AT, AC, and PB. I think it’s correct but no guarantees. If you need any other pics let me know. Easy to take without hood and fenders.

Perfect, just what I'm looking for. I think my rear fitting is a tad different with Hide-aways ... at least a "T" of some sort off the back for the doors.
What is that line that bolts to the carb called? It supplies vacuum to the TVS right? I'll have to bend that a tad since I am using a 71 carb and the vacuum port is pretty much right below the fuel inlet ... just to the left a bit, but not as far to the left as a proper 702 carb. I think the rear fitting I need is the Ames N139PV but with the "T" coming off the red stripe line that comes out the side. Pretty much what you have there. In 69 I think they went to the angled side outlet. Thanks for the pics, going to save those for reference. BTW, where the hell did you get an idle solenoid?? Would love to have one on mine since the throttle arm has the provision for it ... but they are hard to find ... I guess even one not working would be better than none at all. |

Illustration I found in GTO restoration guide is helpful, although still not sure about the connection for hideaways.

From what I can find ... the 68 uses the fitting that goes straight back to the PB hose barb, and has a smaller port coming straight off to the side. This smaller port got a T fitting sending one side of the T to the hideaways.
69 used a very similar piece, except the small barb came off at an angle. I think. |

I was wondering how it might be piped for a manual tranny with standard brakes, be nice to have photographic examples of all the configurations.

I think manual gearbox with manual brakes it just has a small barb sticking out and that's it.
The Ames catalog has got pictures of a few of them with their application. |

See ! Great thread data, I'll go ahead and blow those up for ease of viewing... Pretty sure that white valve hanging on that hose here in the first pic is the check valve coming from the hideaways. If I'm not mistaken it goes to the fitting that's plugged at the back of the carb in pic 4. Thanks again, Good stuff, Frank
