Default So we said goodbye to my Max yesterday...

14 years - it was a good run...

For those of you who have followed Max's last few birthdays, you'll know he wasn't doing too well and there were many times in the last year I figured he wouldn't make it to 14 but he did.

http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...d.php?t=773653

Something happened this past weekend however and he simply lost all of the strength in his hind legs and most of his strength overall. I would have to hold him up so he could eat his meals, carry him in & out of the house to do his business and move him when he wanted to go from the front hall, to the family room, to bed. I didn't work much this week, only going out for what was absolutely necessary each day, only to come home to find him exactly where I left him, breathing heavy and clearly uncomfortable.

We knew the time had come but waited for Cate to get back from her semester abroad - Patrick had gone over to travel with her the last week & a half after her finals ended and they got back late Tuesday. Wednesday everyone was here and we got to spend a lot of time telling Max stories...like when the neighbors sent him home wearing a tutu, the cream cheese brownies incident, the neighbor's stolen birthday cake, the Giaradelli Chocolates, Sandra meeting him for the first time (she loved him first) - it was nice & everyone got to say their goodbyes.

So yesterday we took him for some ice cream and went to the vets office, told him to go find Gradie and let him go.

http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...d.php?t=777372

It's always hard, and I was afraid we had waited too long, but he went easily, snoring a few times as he drifted off to sleep.

A few of his early pics and his last.

So very sorry for your loss,

Our "furry kids" are such a big part of our families & give us unconditional love. It is always hard when we lose one.

God Bless

Bill

R.I.P. Max.. I am so sorry.. Your family did have a great life with him as can be seen in the photographs you treasure... We too had to say good bye two months ago to our great Dog. The quote above is very true.
Lump in the throat here too..

Life can be very cruel. It's cruel when we have to say goodbye to our furry friends. They just do not live long enough. I wish cats and dogs had a 40-50 year lifespan.

Very sorry to hear, before we got the 2 rescues we have now our old guy made it to about 17 and it was time he got real bad over a real short period of time. We felt terrible, he was great with my kids, they were heartbroken but to hold him here any longer was just selfish on our part, still it was very hard, I understand what you are going through.

Oh, man- sorry to hear it, Chris. It's so hard to say goodbye to a loved pet, even when you know it's time.
I'm around if you want to get out to grab a beer or anything.

Chris, I am so sorry. I’ve had to do this five times. It still tears my heart, but you did what was the most merciful for Max

Sorry for your loss. They always leave something. I tend to remember the fun things. Years ago,37 ,wife had a 71 Formula 400. I took our dog Penny an Irish Setter to Dairy Queen the first time she had a small cone outside the car .2nd time she would not eat outside the car she wanted to eat inside the car like everyone else!! Still think of her I would go cross country skiing she d be there with me. I think of the Rainbow Bridge.I thank the creator for those times that we enjoyed together.
