Default Stock valley pan and roller lifters

Can a 73 455 stock valley pan be used with roller lifters or do I have to do something different. Would really like to use this piece even if I have to clearance it a bit on the bottom

Butler massaged my SD pan, and Dave at SD says it can be done
Note: When using a stock OEM valley pan and any type of Roller Lifter, be sure to clearance the underside of the valley pan with a hammer so it will clear the link bars on the roller lifters. 72 and prior valley pans only need to be clearanced on the Passenger side right below the PCV valve back to about the middle of the engine while 73 and up valley pans require clearancing on both sides. The best way to check for clearance is to have no heads on the shortblock, the lifters installed and then place the valley pan on the block, rotate the crank/cam to be sure there is adequate clearance (about .100"). My original 1970 valley pan worked with roller lifters and no issues.

I had the later one (1975) and checked for witness marks, ball peen hammered both sides until clear, works fine.

My stock '72 pan works fine no mods. A cork gasket probably helps some as opposed to just using sealer...

I tried using my factory pan with roller lifters and although I was able to clearance it enough to not contact the link bars, the work necessary to do that bent the pan enough to where it had severe sealing issues. Went to the Tomahawk pan and no more issues.

I should also point out that my factory pan did not clear without modification, even with a thick cork gasket.

I used a non-egr valley pan, I think a 1972 with my roller rockers with no issues.

The Tomahawk valley pan is awesome- seems like a no brainer and small price to pay vs an old pan that may be gunked up and needs a bfh to work.
