Default Tripower for a 434 cu. in. Mild Street Engine

I just finished a '66 Tripower setup restoration to be used on a 434 Pontiac with a fairly mild hydraulic roller cam. 236/242 duration @.050, valve lift .521/.540" with 112 degree lobe separation. 9.5:1 compression. TH400 trans with 3200 stall converter.

I modified idle circuit in the venturi cluster by slightly enlarging the brass idle tube and idle bypass restrictors. The idle mixture holes in the throttle body were also enlarged slightly. Jetting in the center carb is set at .064" for the center carb and .073" for the ends.

The cylinder heads have the heat riser passages filled to eliminate the center Siamesed exhaust ports, eliminating the option of using a conventional '66 choke thermostat, so we used an electric choke. Note that the early big Pontiac carb had the choke mounted on the throttle body. I used one of the early units and an electric choke similar to the later Quadrajets. Note that this setup requires installing the front-to-rear throttle rod upside down to clear the choke assy. Tight clearances, but it works.

I've built several others like this and thought you may be interested in what can be done if you decide to eliminate the heat riser.
