Default 1970 JW Wheels

My 1970 Trans Am is missing the original JW wheels. I have secured 4 JW rims, but they are after my build date of 3rd week of March 70(1 May 11, 2 May 25 and 1 April 6).

So I have been trying to locate Jan or Feb build dates to swap, no success as several members have indicated they are hens teeth to locate..

Realizing they are not correct build date, do I refinish these JWs and mount on the car? Thoughts on this idea please.

Thanks in advance

I would!

How many people are going to bend over and read the date codes and actually know how to decipher them?

I think you would be surprised. I had a guy at a show crawl under my car to look at my starter.

3-9's would work for you. Jan wheels are hard to find and I don't know if I have ever seen a Feb wheel.

Was your '70 optioned with trim rings? If yes, no one will be able to see the codes.

I think you are the only one that can answer that question. I have a February built '70 and got 4 of the 5 original JW's with the car. Found one more date matching JW on here. All my wheels are 1/27 date code. It sounds like you really want the correct date wheels and it will bug you if you don't have them. You should be able to trade someone who is in a similar situation as you are. In the meantime, you still have yours to use if need be.

Don't hold me to it, but at one time I had an oddball January 1970 JW wheel. I'm not sure if I still have it, but if I do I would be willing to trade it for a 5 25 JW.

I have owned several sets of JWs, most were March, April, and May.

If it matters...I look at rally IIs without trim rings as not originals to car. Hard to find a good set. JW are the hardest...

My first thought as well!

I had thought the May dated ones were the hard ones to find and more valuable because they were used on the IV cars. I've had two sets of January wheels and one set of May's. All out now.

Part sellers are the winners in these JW wheels...

Thanks for the responses. Yes I guess most would not check date codes, but I now a few would, my wife included, lol

PonchoMike, I have sent you a message re the rim.

Now, anyone know who restores these rims?? Live in a condo now, no garage to do it myself..

I have the JWs out for restoration. Awaiting them to be finished. I have a set of NOS red centre caps for the rims.
Question, what lug nuts are correct for the car? It is a March 70 build date.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I also have a 1970 T-A that was shipped on 06-30, 1970. What color center caps and lug nuts would be correct for my car based on the date? Thanks

Red ornaments in the center caps, and black centers in the lug nuts.

Default Same question, different car!

On a 1971 Formula 455, I know the center caps would be red but what color on the lug nuts?
