Default Details ..Details...Details...

It seems like I once saw a post that gave all the correct finishes and colors for detailing an engine bay, suspension and such. but I can't find it anywhere . does anyone know where to find this ?

I look at pictures but there are 10 variations and I'm never sure which is right. I'm not trying for 100 points I just want it as correct as possible.

If not my first question is, was the crank pulley painted with the engine or is it black ?

Crank pulleys in 64-5 and I think 66 were painted with the rest of the block, engine color. Not sure about the newer years.

My dad's original 66 tri-power has lower pulley engine blue, water pump pulley silver plated, probably zinc or cad as someone else stated.P/S,no air. As a side note. The power steering pulley has the part number stamped on it in yellow ink or paint. It is right below the numbers stamped into the metal.

There is a lot of traffic on this question, but as usual no 100% consensus. I have not done a compilation of the results, but my gut feeling, and the one I followed, is 1966 Crank pulley should be engine color

I have an original '66 crank pulley that still has metallic blue paint on it. After seeing Charles' post above and being slightly more familiar with my '68, I'd go out on a limb say that after '66, black.

AMX Guy, First thread is what you requested from 07. Next threads are showing 67 crank pulley can be engine color too.

Perfect. thank you I tried to find this but I didn't know where it came from last time. I'll print it off and keep it in my shop.

there may be some variations in it that aren't correct for a certain model or year but it's far better than a wild guess.

No AC here and mine is the engine color. The water pump pulley is now Eastwood Spray Grey as I didn't have cadmium silver at the time I needed it. Doesn't look bad and no one seems to once there's a difference. Even the Pontiac guys here haven't noticed. LOL

This won't help much but I'll post it just because they're a couple of cool pics. The color shot is supposedly a '65 and the b&w shot supposedly a '66. I copied the pics from somewhere..

I think I'll go blue on the crank pulley and black on the water pump pulley. even if silver is correct it seems to me it would look a little cheezy. it just doesn't seem right, more like high school kid spray can chrome work. it's something I might have done back then.

Was the bellhousing painted blue in 66 ? or all bare aluminum ? or like Mopar was it not painted but it was mounted and got overspray ?

that picture looks to be engine color.

I don't think Pontiac ever oversprayed their bellhousings. Always just bare aluminum.
