Default What's it worth 1965 WS 389 Tripower Motor Value

I was considering keeping the OE in the garage after I put the LS in the GTO, but it just gathers dust and I have no desire to go back to that motor ever. Besides, the date code is a J164 on the block. Heads are 093 1966 series. The bottom end needs to be rebuilt. Heads were freshened up a few years back with hard seats and springs. Any idea what its worth? No cam but has crank and rods in it and spins over fine.

Does it include the tri-power setup?
Just to give you a ballpark idea, I paid $1000 for a '66 WT 4bbl engine, complete carb to pan but no accessory brackets. It was rough but running and all original. I thought it was a fair price.
I'd say yours is worth about that much without the carb and intake and more than double that with the carb setup.

Yea, no tripower. I plan on rebuilding and selling that separately in the future. See those going for crazy money. Was thinking the heads got to be worth $750 for the pair by themselves considering they have low miles on the current valve job, springs and screw in studs. WS block is good but needs to be rebuilt. Was blowing oil out the breather at the time of removal.

A buddy of mine was going to pay $3500.00 for a worn out, tired '64 Tri-Power engine with the Tri-Power that needed everything. I told him he was nuts. $1900 to $2500.00 max is all a good block (hopefully), good crank (maybe), set of heads (that will need everything) and a Tri-Power is worth.

Where was the last time you saw cash actually exchange hands?

Tri-Powers these days pull more money selling them for parts than as a whole. Those $2000.00 to $2500.00 prices you see are just that.... prices. But if you think there are buyers out there paying $2500.00 send them my way, I have a dozen of them.

Heads?? $750.00???? Not going to happen. Not anymore. The value of heads are way down unless you have something rare like round-ports, and even those don't bring the money they use to. You can thank Edlebrock for that. There is a guy out my way that still thinks his 670's are worth $1200.00. He'll be lucky if he gets $500.00. I would be happy to take $250.00 for a real nice pair of 93's I got.

Yea, I have bellhousing, flywheel, clutch fork(s), and probably a really nice throw out bearing. Don't think I have a pressure plate or clutch disc. I even have the numbers match M21. I might keep that for awhile

If you think they are doing $2000.00 to $2500.00, I'll take that. But I would rather sell parts because I know I'll get more with less work, investment and/or hassle.

Currently I do not have a '66 setup ready to rock n' roll and when I do I will just keep it on the shelf with the rest of them until the prices go up (hopefully).

For a 66 the price CAN be dependent on IF it is a true 66 center carb or a clone center carb.I can buy complete 65 restored tripowers for $1500,fuel lines, linkage and air cleaners included.66s I have not priced.FWIW,Tom

And that is pretty much the top dollar. There are many out there for $1250.00 that are nice units. 66's currently draw a bit more because performance guys want the bigger center carb for their hot rod. 64's and down are dogs. Any complete automatic setup with all the vacuum pieces are currently drawing all the money.

With the exception of modifying the idle tubes and jets, they are all there. Ran it on a 455 and 461 for a bit. Had Mike Wasson go through them several years back including plating and etc. Little dusty from sitting, but still nice.
