FRESH 1962 GRAND PRIX
This stunning 1962 GP showed up at this past weekend AACA show and I was immediately drawn to it. This care was as fresh as they get. Having one many many years ago and appreciating what it takes to bring one back I couldn't get enough of her.
If I could have crawled under her I would have I would consider this a bit over the top but IMHO well done and thought some of you might enjoy the photo shoot; https://flic.kr/s/aHsm9wgJiP

Jeff,
The car belongs to me, thank you for the compliments. Although I'm pretty sure I remember you i wish you had introduced yourself. It was a really nice and enjoyable show. To answer the question about the underside of the hood, it should be black, the painter got a little carried away and I just haven't had a chance to make the correction. Anyone going to Hershey next week I will have my 61 Ventura there in class 36a (muscle cars), stop by and say hello.

Fresh is a good description - it hasn't even had a chance to burn the paint off the exhaust ports yet. Very nice car.

When I got my 62 GP 19 years ago, it had been repainted. The inside of the hood was red like the body. Since the firewall still had the original red, I had always assumed that the inside of the hood would be the same.
Then about 2 years ago, I had a bad wreck that destroyed the hood, grill, bumper, and right fender. A local restoration shop repaired it for me, but since the original hood was removed by the frame shop, the restoration shop never saw the hood. When I got the car back after about seven months, the inside of the replacement hood was painted black. I was a little miffed that he painted the inside of the hood black, but didn't want to take it back, since he had done such a beautiful job on the body work and painting. I had another one back in the 60s, but can't remember what the inside of the hood was like. If the were all painted black, I guess it's time for me to get over my black hood interior! |

The car was in a local AACA show Va. Beach, it was,in class 36a. I'm sure they did deduct something for the underside of the hood. I didn't ask but they should have. I don't have any pictures of the car, Jeff posted 31 pictures, don't know if he has additional ones. I will at some point show the car at one of Asia's National Meets but not until next year at the soonest. I'm going to Hershey next week but not taking this car.

Its highly unlikely they know enough about all the vehicles so a detail like under-hood color likely would get overlooked as long as it's clean and in good order. The images linked are all I had taken, easily could have spend another hour or so on that outstanding machine. Cheers

Summer of '62 was my first real job getting $0.75 an hour working six days a week 12 hours a day at a neighborhood service station. We had a customer named Gordon who had a very similar first year GP. Differences were his had a 4 barrel engine. white seats, A/C and a limited slip rear end. He'd bring the car in on a Saturday morning for oil change/lube/wash. I'd sometimes get to drive him home in his car, drive it back to the station for the service work, then deliver it back to his place a mile or so away. I was in heaven!
