Default What parts needed for gas tank replace

I have an unbearable leak I believe from the filler neck so I'm just going to replace the tank. Having never done this, I'm not familiar with all parts I'll need for my 68 lemans convertible. I assume the tank, neck, and sending unit and straps. Any other parts I need to put on the list that wear out over 50 years of play whether optional or mandatory while I have the tank dropped? Thanks

Be very gentle dropping tank, you might find build sheet stuck on top. I found mine almost completely intact.

The new tank comes with the filler neck installed. Be sure to
order a stainless steel one......they are better looking and don't ever tarnish like
tin plated tanks and don't ever corrode from ethanol fuel. You can buy them
from auto City Classic. One caution.........they also sell stainless steel sending units,
but the one I put in my GTO is defective....reads 3/4 of a tank when it is full. If you
have an original sender that reads right, use it over.

68 is vented, so you might also consider replacing the large rubber hose coming off the tank that is clamped to the body depending on how badly it has decomposed.

There is a rubber hose with a metal "J" attached to it which vents on the neck by the cap. (if it is missing it will leak)

May need a new gas tank insulation, rubber or tar paper, for the top of the tank. Also should get new rubber fuel lines from the sending unit to the steel main lines. I ended up buying the rubber insulation, but my bolts were not long enough to reach the straps . So I ended up getting longer bolts from a local hardware store.

Be advised that the '68 filler tube is bent slightly so that it kicks up where it exits the bumper. I'm not sure if there is a direct replacement for it.
If you use what was available when I did mine, you'll need to 'adjust' it to line up with the bumper opening. Otherwise, you won't be able to get the fuel cap on/off.
