Default Help me understand mirror placement on 70-72s

I would like to change the incorrect sport mirrors over to repro chrome mirrors on my 70. If I under stand from reading other threads, are the chrome mirrors mounted forward and the sport mirrors back some? I don't want to drill new holes, fill, paint, etc. So question I guess is will chrome mirrors work in this position or will angle be wrong so I won't be able to see? Were chrome and sport mounted in the same spot on 71-72s?

In 71 they moved the location back & still offered the chrome mirror.
The chrome one will work fine, it just sets further back than they did in 70.

I replaced chrome with the sport on my '71. Used the same holes and it is fine.
