Default 400 dyno results

I have a .060 over 400 with factory crank, Eagle rods, Icon Pistons. It's topped off with SD Performance KRE 295 heads and their ported factory intake with a q jet tuned by Cliff. I was running a hydraulic roller with 1.5 rockers. While the engine ran good, I was never really impressed. So after following GTOFREAK's 400 build I decided to make a change. I installed the Voodoo HR 231/239 with 1.65 rockers. Off to the dyno I went. After a little distributor tuning, the engine liked 34*. Air/ fuel was right on. The thing that kind of surprised me was that it made peak HP at 5400. I would have thought it would have been 400-500 rpm higher. Do you guys think that's where it should have peaked or should I be looking for something holding it back? Also it was run with a fuel pump and alt installed so that took a few ponies off , dyno operator guesses another 15-20hp with those off. As a side note, they had Cliff's Qjet book on the bench and thought it would be fun to see how close he got the tune. They were impressed.

Nice numbers. The little 400 is a beast! Where is cam degreed?

It degreed at 103* as recommend by GTOFREAK.

Impressive numbers for a 400. I am curious , before the cam and carb change what were the numbers? Also what carb did you have on before?

The carb is not changed, just cam and rockers. I have no numbers with the other cam, wish I did.

Nice numbers. I see you swapped out the stump puller for the voodoo, is that right?

Nice numbers, tq is up there for a 400 too. Imo it's peaking a hair early but that's most likely due to the amount of advance in the cam. It would have been nice to see what the engine did a little higher up in the rpm range to see if it hangs on good or falls off quickly.

Headers? Compression ratio?

I'd really like to see numbers with a port matched Torker 2 intake.

The cam and heads are capable of more (even at 103 centerline).
Some dyno's are very conservative.

A few months ago I suggested a similar cam for another 400 build.
The OP wanted to moderate his combo, I targeted 5700 / 5800 RPM peak.

Go back to one of Paul's builds, same cam but with ported 670 heads.

The "ported factory" did just slightly better there.
A Victor pushed it up to 500HP, but dropped torque down low too much.
IMO a Torker 2 would be a great match.

(KRE 295 will RPM even better)

I would have liked to try another intake but this is all I have. I know the heads are not the restriction.

On the 413 I tested, the unported intake made peak power at 5300, and dropped off pretty quickly after that. When we tested the ported iron intake, it still peaked at 5300, but carried that same power out to 5900. They should have pulled it to 6000 to see what it did up there.Either way, nice job, it should be a beast on the street.

What exhaust is on it?

What gears are you going to run in it?

I have 1 3/4" headers into 2.5" pipes. I also have a X pipe I may install. Also running a 2004r trans into a 3.73 rear gear. For the dyno test, we used their headers because they had the o2 fitting. I think they were 1 5/8 primary

Another thing to add is that idle vacuum was up around 17-18 although the idle may have been a little high at that point when I looked at the vacuum
