Default Pcv valve part #

What are you guys using for a PCV valve for a lower than stock vacuum engine? I found one for a Chevy 396 but it is a larger diameter than our Pontiacs. Should I drill out the grommet so I can use the larger PCV valve or just use a stock replacement valve? I keep reading the importance of a proper PCV valve but how do we pick the proper one?

Do you have less intake vacuum than a stock RAIV engine? These engines uses a std PCV valve.

RA IV would idle about 10-11 inches of vacuum.

I expect my vacuum to be about 12 inches. Guess the standard one will be fine.
So if Pontiac was able to use one pcv valve for all applications , why does Chevy have multiple valves with different applications ?

Pontiac never had a production camshaft larger in .050" duration specs than the RA-IV camshaft. around 230° @.050 Lift.

Chevrolet had (for example) The 30-30 Small Block Camshaft
hydraulic 30-30 : advertised duration: 286 intake/293 exhaust,
duration @ .050 : 239 /246 ,
lift : .483" /.477" ,
lobe center: 112 degrees.

The Duntov Solid Lifter Camshaft: (Also Z-28 Camshaft)
advertised duration: 284 intake/291 exhaust,
duration @ .050 : 247 /254 ,
lift : .504" / .498",
lash: .012"
lobe center: 112 degrees

The Chevrolet Z-28 Off-Road Camshaft that a lot of guys ran was even nastier for a street engine.

Cam Timing: TAPPET @.050
Lift: Opens Closes Max Lift Duration
Intake 20.5 BTDC 56.5 ABDC 108
257° @.050 Lift
Exhaust 70.5 BBDC 18.5 ATDC 116
269° @.050 Lift

So the Ram Air IV camshaft was pretty whimpy vs the Chevrolet stuff.
I did not go into any of the BB Chevy Specs for the 396/375 & 425 HP engine, the 427 425 HP engine, the LS-6 and LS-7 Big Block engines, or the L-88 and ZL-1 engines.

All of them had PCV systems installed (if possible) as they eliminated corrosive gas in the oil pan.

I was just about to post the same question for my 455 with the Stump Puller.

Looks like the cv881c fits several years of the gm 2.5 Iron Duke engine. If i may add, a rock solid platform.
My combo idles good but i ordered one any way. It will give me something to tinker with.
