I use a uni-filter. Didn't see any noticeable loss with filter versus without. They claimed it would pick up, but...
Have an open scoop and wanted to run a filter, and it worked for me.
Cleanable and re-usable foam element.

Uni-filter #FRS 960 for dominator.

It is not round, rectangular configuration.

I ran the Uni rectangular low profile air cleaner when I switched over to a Dominator/E85 .... found that it would rotate during the run affecting airflow into the carb enough that it slowed down.

Went to the Moroso 65920 assembly with a K&N filter and never looked back. Damned expensive but it works.

I have an open cowl hood with no airbox.
