Making a wraparound window 2nd gen bird into a small window.
I have access to a decent 76 fb shell, I was looking for a clean 70-73 shell, I can get full quarters and tailpanel for a 70-73 to put on the 76.
Only real issue I see is the inside metal work that would normally be on a 70-73 shell that is not on a 76 because of the big window cutout, anyone on here try this? Did you just make up an interior metal piece to patch up to the window? Thx. |

Have not tried this but I did do alot of metal work around the back window channel on my 73. I would find yourself a donor car for the metal around the window. The 70-73/74? camaro has the same window channel area but does change about 2 inches away from the channel so this is where you would have to graft into the 70-73 full quarter. Im sur it can be done, anything can be done just need time. If it were me I would be looking for a 70-73 esprit to clone and save a ****load of work. Good luck

It's just that most of the 70-73 bodies I have looked at need at least quarters and floors if not rails, and there are expensive, this thing will need quarters, but the rest is really solid and its really cheap, I am assuming that the trouble spot I am talking about could be fabricated, the only thing that would attach to it would be the headliner, right???
Just looking at options. Thx |

also keep in mind that the following parts changed between 1973 & 1974;
- quarter panel - trunk drop offs - tail panel (& inside) The headliner actually changed part way through the 1973 model year; 70-73.5 used the fabric style headliner with bows, the 73.5+ used the carboard backed design with foam and material glued on top.

why not do the '76 as a nice '76, then put that money towards a legitimate 70-73?
I have always been partial to '76 Formulas with the appearance package... I love Pretty much all Firebirds, but 67-68 and 70-76 are my favorites... There's something about the single headlight 70-76 cars that I just love.

Agree on the single HL cars, just have my heart set on duplicating a 73 455 Formula that owned back in the late 70's column shift car! But I am not interested in it being original other than looks, mini tubbed pro touring suspension etc. So having the "look" of the 70-73 IS important, what the car was to start with, not so much. |

Scarebird did up a 79 into a 70-73 all except the back window. His build is on Transamcountry.forums
