Default NASCAR's new format for 2017

This is getting rediculous. No wonder the stands are half empty.

It's got me confused. Talking about the pit road not being open until about five laps before the designated caution. No green flag stops? What about when a caution flag is waved beforehand? Very vague.

Way too confusing. I say put em back in cars off the showroom floor with some extra safety gear and let em rip!! That would be entertaining.

Glad I stopped watching it when a driver that only ran 2/3's of the season won the championship, it proved to me the format was a Joke. That just sounds stupid.

Same here, David. When NASCAR management started getting political, I was done.

Seems like another way to add more TV commercials.

I have my doubts......

They are trying to get drivers to race the whole race vs. hanging back until the last 1/4 of the race.....

It's been painful trying to remain a fan....

The stands are half empty because there is nothing stock car about it, NOTHING, hasn't been for 35 years since they stopped using the stock'ish bodies altogether. They need to get back to their roots.

I much prefer GT2 or even better GT3, at least those are factory cars turned into race cars. Hell, I even prefer the modern Trans Am series to NASCAR.

I used to race the street stock NASCAR class myself, used an old Nova like most. Stopped in 1999.

How many stages are in a race?

Three -- Stage 1, Stage 2 and the Final Stage.

Oh, you had me worried.
I thought you were wearing a wire.

Not unlike the 'demonstrators' in Washington D.C. over the weekend.

Tom, the problem I think is that if a race is 3 hours long, with say 30 minutes of cautions (just using this as an example), then the same race will be longer because they will have mandatory "stages" for the race, like the All-Star race. Typically, they spend 10 minutes yakking in the booth during these breaks, showing more commercials, etc., so I don't see how adding two mandatory breaks will result in less commercials.

Maybe I'm missing something here....

Sounds like hockey or pro basketball should do this too???

Maybe people would watch that then.

I thought an exploding puck would be interesting to add to hockey...

How about one car run clockwise for the second stage? That would be REALLY interesting?

Mike,I'm willing to wait and see, like I said I'm going to Fontana.I don't like the sound of it but what choice is there?F1 is virtually a follow the leader,Indy is still in des array although I will go to the Long Beach race because it's 10 min from my house and NHRA only has the Pro classes on TV.NASCAR is trying to make the Cup cars even more eval to drive by making the splitter and spoiler smaller.Monster is going to try to get the younger fans involved.I see tons of kids in the stands every year at Fontana. In reality the sanctioning body makes the money from TV way more than the butts in the seats.Tom
