Default re-production Ram Air IV intake

I was wondering if the raised plenum floor in the re-production intake be manifold be lowered to the proper depth of 3.5"? It looks like the raised portion is only a part and not the whole floor in the deep plenum. If it can be done how hard would it be. I have found a couple original 69 raIV intakes and just feel like I am commiting a sin to modify them. I want to do the while SD performance modification.

A production type machine shop or a full on race shop with a long enough end mill could lower the plenum floor for you, but the set up time would likely amount to more of the cost then the milling itself, can't say but they can give a estimate on cost I would guess!

Curious....

And what would this accomplish ? Trying to increase the size of the plenum area? Use a carb spacer instead ?

Repop is at it's own different depth. The 71 HO intake is supposed to be at the same as the RAIV intake, 72 HO a little shorter per Rocky Rotella's old HPP article-but my 72 HO service replacement is not as shallow as that one. I still think you would have a tough time on the dyno seeing any difference between the minimal plenum depth of a 72 and RAIV/71 HO intake. Since they are almost the same runner size and plenum depth as the cast iron intakes I can't understand how a cast iron intake could really run any better either if both intakes have the same mods.

And as others said no way will it cover a tall port, factory a hair taller but neither will cover a 2.300 port without welding and milling.
