30 Year Anniversary
Thirty years ago today I bought my Tempest. I was 18 years old, senior in high school. I paid $1375, my parents thought I was nuts!! It didn't really fit in with the iroc z's and other new cars in the school parking lot, but it was mine!
Remarkably it survived the many poor decisions a young "car guy" makes and stuck with me through college, a bunch of jobs, marriage, kids and so on. This car has brought me so much enjoyment and a lot of frustration but I wouldn't trade it for anything!! Currently the Tempest is down but not out, for a short while. The new engine is in the works right now and we'll be back very soon! Thanks goes out to everyone that I have met through the Pontiac world. A lot of great people and great friends have come out of owning this Pontiac. I hope the next thirty years will be just as good and when it's time to hand over the keys to my daughter and son they can enjoy it as much also. Sorry for babbling on but I just thought I would share this big day. See everyone at the track soon!! Jamey

Congrats Jamie. The first time I saw you car was when you were featured in the pavement pounders series in HPP. I remember it had a spun aluminum air filter base that at was more of a velocity stack. I bought my car in the fall of 1987, so I'm one year behind you. I paid $1500 for mine. Is your new engine going to have iron D-ports? You've been pretty faithful to the old OEM heads, but there are some good choices for those that want more power. I finally bought a second car, after it's finished I'll probably put my Firebird back on the street, with a Muncie like it came from the factory.

I am gonna stick with the D-ports one more time. They are about the only parts that survived when the rod broke. They have been good to me! I should move up to a IA2/aluminum head deal and will at some point , it's just not in the budget right now.

Great story! I wish I still had the '66 Lemans I got back in 1985 when I was 14.
