help identify balancer/damper
I have this balancer I removed from an engine that was never started due to water setting in the cylinders. The engine was built in the mid 90's possibly in California. No marking numbers or identifying features.
It was black anodized at one point but became rusty from setting. It fits the late engines and is direct size replacement, pulleys bolt right up and align. Timing mark is dead on also. Weight is 11 pounds. Heres the odd part, its solid steel, one piece, machined form a solid blank. I can e-mail someone pictures if you want to see it or post them, I don't have any picture accounts. Balancer
Hello, there was a guy from around Cleveland that set up at Norwalk years ago.I believe his name was Larry. He was selling his own design solid balancers as well as IV and V stuff. I think his company name was Arrowhead Auto. I hope this helps.

I would think so.
This is a solid piece of metal I think? (no dampening) Might be good for a belt drive blower? (could use a factory pulley and blower pulley) Looks nicely made though.

It's solid, all the way through! If someone thinks they can use it, let me know.

If it's solid then it can't possibly do any harmonic damping, it's just extra flywheel weight along for the ride!

That's why I said it could be used on a belt driven supercharger/blower.
Most of them don't use a damper, the belt takes most of the harmonics on them.

I pulled it from a Macho T/A , last of 8 turbo cars. I just can't imagine why someone thought adding this was a good idea.
What would happen to the engine without a super charger? Would a crank stay together? Joe |

The "light duty" 400's in the last 2-3 (?) years of production had a solid hub with no dampening ring.
My 77 solid hub 400 has 102,000 on it, and has been on a stand for a long time because of a flat cam lobe...

Yeah,I've got a solid hub left over from my '59 389 engine, I kept it just in case I ever decided to build a mild blower engine.
