Default New motor mounts super rough...

Hey guys, I just got the new motor mounts installed and the car sounds like its about to fall apart. I am also looking for a 4 barrel manifold and redoing my pertronix ignition so it will run smoother. Any ideas of why it could be this way?

I got an extra 4 barrel manifold and will ship it to you for $100. It will need to be cleaned up but is good. Let me know if you want it?

Incorrect mounts, shorter tranny mounts instead of tall tempest engine mounts installed. Distributor cracked or bent from jacking up the motor to replace them. Ground straps broken from motor mounts when replaced preventing proper engine ground for spark. Etc.

The aftermarket replacement mounts for a 62 or 63 4 cyl car are nowhere near made correctly. They are made out of some kind of cheap rubber that is almost as hard as a rock. That transmits ALL of the vibration from the engine right into the cross-member and on into the body structure. If you've ever seen NOS mounts you could see what I am saying. They were designed to be real soft and "cushy" to help absorb and deflect some of the vibration away from the body. At this point there is probably nothing you can do to make it any better. That engine has a lot of imbalance forces acting within it and that is simply the way those 4 cyl cars are.

It's too bad there's not a easy way to transplant a modern engine into one of these old cars.

You could try this from Summit racing. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/trd-9314
Or if you still have the old ones, these guys will do a reconditioning.

I can check the barn and see if I have any of the original ones from some of the salvaged cars. I will be there in two weeks.
