Mini starter stays engaged in the run position
Lately, when I start my GTO, the starter will stay engaged with the key in the run position. When this happens, I can turn it to the off position and the starter will still be running. I turn the key back and forth and it will stop. What might cause this? It only happens once in a while. Could it be a bad ignition switch? Bad key lock cylinder? The starter is a one year old powermaster mini starter.

Possibly the switch itself on the steering column?

Yup...
I'd start with the switch on the column like PDC said. Aside from that the solenoid wire may be getting voltage from being shorted to another wire (not grounded) . |

If bendix sticks engaged, some starters will continue to receive 12v even with the key off.

I've heard of permanent magnet starters self-energizing to some extent by creating their own current.
