Default Heading off to Alaska

The wife and I are heading off on an Alaskan cruise in two weeks. She has about 300 hours comp time at her job. I think the last 3 vacations we took were Pontiac related so I kind of feel obligated to surrender to her wishes this time.
We have been there once before flying into Juneau about fifteen years ago and had a great time. I told her maybe we could visit some junk yards while we were there and she just gave me that look. So wish me luck.

Great song! If you really listen, has a sound a lot like Elvis.

Will you be stopping in Victoria BC Canada?? What day? I live close to there and some cars cruise into the terminal saturday nights if weather is good.
Friends of our did the Alaska cruise and went on a Deadliest Catch cruise, said it was cool. Had 1 of the skippers from one of the Ships on the tour.

I'll chime in on that. I'm up at the other end of Vancouver Island in Pt Mc Neill. A lot of cruise ships go right past us. It's rare, but some of them stop for a bit in our little bay. If it looks like your's will, let me know and I'll PM ya my phone#.

There ARE old cars up there. We went in 2012 I think it was and on the bus ride from Fairbanks to Denali National Park we passed a number of wrecking yards and "peoples" yards with old cars to be seen. There was one '61 bubble top Pontiac in one of the wrecking yards. No matter what the price though can you imagine what it would cost to
get one back to Texas?

When I was living in Whitehorse Yukon back in the eighties, you could do a container shipping thing from Skagway or Juneau, I forget which. I believe it was something to do with rail. ( my old boss did a couple that way, so I don't remember the details that well) Anyways the price wasn't too bad to Seattle.
Of course from there to Texas would likely be pretty steep.

....Alaskan told me salmon "fishing" in Alaska is more like snagging, quite a joke compared to fly fishing or even regular fishing.

Yeah, there's so many salmon heading upstream to spawn you'll snag them.

In NY's Lake Ontario along the eastern shore, up to Henderson Harbor, is the hot spot for catching King salmon. I've been out and caught 2 26 lb. salmon back in 1990. Best fishing trip I've been on ... except for trout in the Adirondacks around the Saranac Lake area.

Took the Ruby Princess out of Seattle 4th of July weekend. Last stop was Victoria - LOVED IT!
While leaving port to go into town, saw a black '70 GTO and then this was outside the Dog Gone It.

If you are going to Juneau by chance make sure you take the cable car up Mount Roberts and then hike to the top. Great views!

Sounds like a fun trip. A friend of mine worked on Alaskan cruise ships for a time.

Catch those salmon in the panhandle near the ocean where they are still fresh. I lived south of Fairbanks, north side of the Alaska mountain range. By the time the spawning salmon got to us in the interior they were tough, beat up, and half dead.
