Default Classic car insurance

My current insurance which is from Hagerty is about to run out. I have a 66 gto and live in Va. So I am insurance hunting just to make sure I am getting the best deal. I'm getting a quote for $325 or so from Hagerty for an agreed value of $35,000. That's with towing with-in 50 miles. Grundy is also in the running with a quote of $287 for the same agreed value of $35,000 and with $250 max for towing. No limit on # of times I may need towing. Otherwise, same coverage's with both companies. Anybody know of any other good companies I should check out, or opinions of these? Thanks

I switched from Hagerty to JC Taylor a few years ago and the cost for the same coverage is about half the price. Hagerty kept climbing quite a bit in price over the years and I attribute it mostly to their excessive advertising. I'm not interested in financing corporate advertising budgets. I haven't filed a claim with either so I can't comment on that.

I've had American Collectors for a few years now. No real complaints, except my rate jumped quite a bit from last year (was $175, now $220) agreed value of $30k, no towing since I have AAA.

I don't know anything about Grundy as I have used Hagerty for 8-10 years with no issues. I had one claim when a car rolled into a tree...no deductible and no hassle. I've been pleased with them so far.

Hi , I got a quote from a CO. awhile back & don't have the name of the CO. but I do have the name of the INS. agency it goes through & the name of the agent. They quoted my a good price with a payment plan too. (monthly) The agents name is Tamra Petro at MK ins. the phone number is 1-866-695-2774, when I talked with them they had a very good policy but mine hasn't run out yet , but I think I will switch when I run out of my current policy. Try them I think you'll be ok there. This came from another member on this site.

You could also try Heacock Insurance.
When Hagerty raised my rates with the answer of "people in your age group went up" and "that year car rates went up", I was able to get insurance with similar coverage for $200 less for the year.

MK Insurance. I switched to them years ago from Hagerty who kept raising my rates. They are wonderful. I have also had several claims over the years (2 for glass, one for a door ding where they paid to repaint half the car to make sure the paint was properly matched) and their claims service was super.

You also get a discount as a car club member - the PY forum does qualify. (they are a sponsor of the Yenko.net site.

http://www.mkinsuranceagency.com/

call and ask for Tamra. She runs the program for MK.

Tell her NJSteve sent you (and no, I don't get a commission - after all the referrals I have sent her way over the years she did promise me a beer, though)

Try American Collectors. I pay 198 a year with similar towing as your Haggerty but my agreed value is 20k- not sure what it would be at 35k. Many satisfied customers with AC...

I know, Older thread but still relevant....

I have had American collectors insurance & my rates also have crept up. Originally I was told that it was because the car was becoming worth more so they were automatically upping the coverage & the policy costs. At the time I had several cars insured for about 10K each. probably the correct value 10-14 years ago. Yes, they are worth more than that now, but I have no intension of selling them, so in the unlikely event that something would happen at least I would have 10K of coverage. I wish there were rates on collector cars when there are say 5+ cars to be insured & maybe the agreement is 100 miles a year. I know that sounds silly but I am lucky if I put 100 miles on in 5 years :(
